Senior Kiana Nosile set new meet and school records as the Blue Devil winter girls’ track and field team turned in a string of strong performances on Friday night at the North Shore Season Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center in Manhattan.
Huntington High School athletes won four separate events and placed high in several others to start the season on a high note.
Nosile launched a shot put throw measuring 41-01.75 feet to win the event and set a new meet and Huntington High School record. The teenager bested a field of 31, who found it impossible to come close to her performance.
Senior Analisse Batista coasted to victory in the 300m dash, going wire to wire in 41.90 seconds, a mere 28/100th of a second off the meet record. Junior Hope Bilkey placed ninth (46.21) in the field of 69 sprinters.
Senior Olivia Conte’s leap of 4-08 feet was good enough to capture the high jump, which drew a field of 10 competitors.
The Blue Devil 4x200m relay was also untouchable. Conte, Batista, Brianna Halbeisen and Bilkey raced to an easy first place finish in 1:49.30. The time was nearly eight seconds faster than the runner-up in the race. The Huntington runners were easily the class of the 17 team field.
Junior Megan Donaghy placed third among 53 runners in the 600m in a time of 1:48.89, about two seconds being the champion.
The Blue Devils’ performance indicates the team is well positioned for a strong showing this winter.
