Edelyn Garcia is all about helping others. So a career in nursing is a perfect fit for the Huntington High School senior. The teenager is coming off a sensational soccer season that culminated in a playoff appearance and All-Conference honors for the lockdown defender.
Ms. Garcia is an energetic, determined and personable young woman who is loyal to a fault. Kind, considerate and respectful, she can best be described as a people person.

One of the Blue Devil girls’ soccer team’s captains, Ms. Garcia played an outsized role in helping Huntington advance to the playoffs and pull off an upset of powerful Commack on its home field.
Away from the athletic arena, Ms. Garcia works just as hard. “I plan on getting involved and volunteering in our community,” she said. “I plan to volunteer at Huntington Hospital.”
Ms. Garcia is especially enjoying the Professional Health Careers program at Wilson Tech. “I enjoy this class because I am able to start learning the basics of the medical field,” she said.
The summer is but a distant memory, but Ms. Garcia used the 10 week break wisely, working, training and playing soccer and beginning the process of selecting and being accepted into a college.
“There are a couple colleges that interest, including St. Joseph’s, Stony Brook, City College of New York, Adelphi and Molloy,” Ms. Garcia said. “I want to study nursing. I’ve always enjoyed helping others and pursing an education in nursing is the best way to accomplish and continue that.”
The teenager is always looking to expand her horizons. “I’ve traveled to nearby states and also out of the county to El Salvador,” Ms. Garcia said. “I’ve enjoyed going to El Salvador the most because I got see where my parents came from and how they grew up.”
The senior knows that some in the community harbor misconceptions about the high school. “I want them to understand that Huntington is a great and united school,” Ms. Garcia said.
The teenager is proud to be a Blue Devil. “My Huntington experience is one that I’ll never forget,” Ms. Garcia said. “It’s brought me friendship and memories that I will always cherish.”
