The J. Taylor Finley Middle School fall sports season will begin on Thursday, September 9. Students can choose from among the following spring sports: Football, girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, girls’ tennis, field hockey, co-ed cross country.

Tryouts will be held the first two or three days of practice from 3-5 p.m. Practices are normally held during the season from Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. Home and away games are scheduled throughout each week. The season will conclude on or about November 4.

Students should listen for announcements about team meetings and look for flyers posted around the building. Those interested in participating in the fall sports program need to be cleared by school nurse Kay Khohkar. Requalification will be available on Monday, August 30 and Tuesday, August 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Finley nurse’s office. Students must present proof of a physical exam within the past 12 months and submit a signed interval health history form.

Students who want to get a physical exam by the school doctor can do so on Wednesday, September 1 at 8 a.m. in the nurse’s office. Students can also get requalified that day. Requalification opportunities will also be available on Thursday and Friday, September 9-10 during lunch periods.

Students can sign-up for sport teams during their lunch periods on the first two days of school. The football team will meet after school on Thursday, September 9. Most teams will hold meetings on Thursday or Friday and begin tryouts/practice the following school day.
