Huntington High School student-athletes will be filing into the building this week as the Blue Devil sports program springs to life.
Students planning on participating in fall sports will be visiting the nurse’s office to obtain clearance for the first day of practice on Monday, August 23. No student can participate without first being cleared by the nurse.
The fall season will feature the following Blue Devils teams: Varsity and junior varsity boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, field hockey, girls’ tennis, girls’ volleyball and football and varsity golf, girls’ swimming and diving and boys’ and girls’ cross country.
Schedules for all teams are currently posted on the Section XI website at www.sectionxi.org. Many teams will play their first games before classes resume on September 9.
Fall teams are permitted to practice twice daily during the run-up to the beginning of classes. Practice sessions are typically held from 8-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. No team in Section XI is allowed to practice from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 1.
Students are required to be re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student-athlete who has the following forms on file:

Here is the schedule for requalification by the school nurse and an opportunity to receive a physical exam by the school doctor:
Wednesday, Aug 18
• Sports clearances for students with a physical exam within past 12 months:
9 a.m. – Boys’ soccer
10 a.m. – Girls’ soccer
11 a.m. - Field hockey
12 noon - Golf
Thursday, Aug 19
• Physical exams with the school doctor: 8 a.m. - Physical exam with the doctor for all students in any sport that need a physical.
• Sports clearances for students with a physical exam within past 12 months:
9 a.m. - Football
10 a.m. – Girls’ swimming and girl’ tennis
11 a.m. – Girls’ volleyball and boys’ cross country
12 noon – Girls’ cross country
Monday, August 23
• Sports clearances for students with a physical exam within past 12 months:
7 - 10 a.m. - All sports
Tuesday, August 24
• Sports clearances for students with a physical exam within past 12 months:
7 – 10 a.m. - All sports
All Blue Devil sports student-athletes are also required to submit a blue parent permission form to their coach no later than the first day of tryouts/practice.
