The Huntington High School boys’ soccer program is gearing up for what it hopes will be another exceptional season. The Blue Devils have been one of the top teams in Suffolk for most of the past decade and have also staked out a statewide reputation for their fine play.

begin on Monday, August 23 at 7:30 a.m. The varsity squad will be coached by veterans John Pagano and Jason Suarez with Jose Alfaro leading the junior varsity team.

Huntington has fielded excellent JV and varsity teams in recent years with many players regarded as among the best in the county. This fall expects to be no different. While the Blue Devils saw a large number of seniors graduate this past June, Pagano is excited to have so many skilled returnees. He believes the squad will once again be highly competitive.

For information about tryouts or either the JV or varsity contact Coach Pagano (coachpags@aol.com) or Coach Alfaro (francis6alfaro@gmail.com).

The JV will feature a mix of returnees along with an influx of talented players coming into the high school from J. Taylor Finley Middle School, which had an excellent team last fall.

Current schedules for both the JV and varsity Huntington boys’ soccer teams are posted on the Section XI website at www.sectionxi.org. The teams are expected to hold two practices daily during at least the first week. Sessions are typically held from 8-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. No team in Section XI is allowed to practice from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 1.

Students are required to be re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student-athlete who has the following forms on file:

• Private Physical Exam Form (link below)

Students interested in trying out for the JV and varsity boys’ soccer teams are asked to report to the Huntington High School nurse’s office at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18. Players must have had a physical exam within the past 12 months or submit a new one at that time. Players also must submit an interval health history form to be cleared for participation.

Those who would like the school doctor to give them a physical exam should report to the nurse’s office at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 19.

The nurse will also be available to clear players on Monday and Tuesday, August 23-24 from 7-10 a.m. All forms must be submitted at that time. No one will be allowed to try out for a team without being cleared by the nurse.

All Blue Devil sports student-athletes are also required to submit a blue parent permission form to their coach no later than the first day of tryouts/practice.

The form can be found at this link:
