The Huntington High School junior varsity and varsity girls’ volleyball teams are getting ready for the fall season, which officially opens with tryouts on Monday, August 23 at 8 a.m. Anyone entering grades 9-12 is welcome to join in on the fun.

The Blue Devil varsity will once again be coached by Todd Donaghy. The JV team will be led by Brian Donaghy. The two coaches have decades of experience on the scholastic and club levels and both are looking forward to the season.

During the first week of the season, the Blue Devil varsity and JV squads will hold two practice daily on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the morning session running from 8-10 a.m. and the late afternoon session going from 5-7 p.m. On Thursday of the first week, the varsity will practice from 8-10 a.m. and the JV will practice from 5-7 p.m.

The Huntington varsity will feature 10 returning players in seniors Shannon Kehoe, Grace Stolfa, Madelyn Bavaro, Kianna Criscuola, Caroline Gorecki and Francesca Stamatatos; juniors Megan Donaghy, Lauren Gennarelli and Haileigh Smith and sophomore Kathryn Barba.

The returnees include six starters and some very strong players from last season’s JV team. “We will be looking to compete for a playoff position,” Coach Todd Donaghy said. “We were in a very difficult conference last season, with programs that have multiple players on year round club teams. But the potential is here in Huntington as well.”
