Advanced Placement Scholar Catherine McCooey enjoyed an incredible run through Huntington High School where she graduated this past June near the top of the Class of 2021.
Ms. McCooey plans to study English at St. Lawrence University. Named a Distinguished Senior after earning near perfect grades, the teenager was inducted into multiple academic honor societies and demonstrated a long list of talents, including all things musical.
The new Huntington alum said she owes her success to her “great teachers” that have supported her throughout high school.
Ms. McCooey said the “most enjoyable parts” of the past four years include the Relay For Life initiative and “helping the community and working toward a common goal.”
A popular performer at the Key Club’s K-Factor talent show, Ms. McCooey and her band captured one of the top awards. A star on the high school’s stage, the teenager regularly participated in the drama club’s fall and spring productions.
Audiences enjoyed Ms. McCooey’s a capella performances with the school choir. A much valued and key member of the Huntington Blue Devil marching band, she will be missed by all this fall.
An articulate, enthusiastic and just plain wonderful young woman, Ms. McCooey was widely respected and admired by her classmates and teachers. As she prepares to begin her college studies, the recent Huntington grad is leaving behind a legacy of which she can be proud.
