The Jefferson Primary School community is remaining as positive as possible in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Classes resumed this week with excited students who have missed their classrooms since last March when schools were closed to help combat the health crisis.

“I hope our Jefferson students, families and staff had an enjoyable and safe summer,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “We have spent a lot of time planning for this school year and we are very excited to welcome our Jefferson students back into the building and virtually. The teachers, staff, students and families collectively make Jefferson a wonderful place to teach, learn and grow. We must remain positive and work together during these challenging times. We will give each other strength and uplift one another during this school opening.”

Jefferson has enjoyed a sensational history since it first opened in September 1962. It has produced some of Huntington’s brightest stars, including valedictorians, state champion athletes and accomplished musicians. It’s also developed well-rounded citizens who have become the backbone of the town at-large.

“This past summer, we have spent a great deal of time and energy preparing for the safe arrival of students and staff at the building,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “Since the school closure in March, we started preparing for what schools would be like this fall. This summer, I participated in various planning committees at the district-level. You will find that there are several changes to ensure the safety and health of students, faculty and staff.”

Like its sister schools in Huntington UFSD, Jefferson will feature a full-time in-person program for kindergarteners. Many changes and modifications have been established to keep the kindergarteners, first, second and third graders and faculty and staff members safe.

“We recently hosted in-person kindergarten parent orientation sessions where parents met our kindergarten teacher team and staff,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. The PowerPoint presentation from the session can be viewed by logging onto the Huntington UFSD website.

While the new school year is opening with a long list of changes to usual practices, Ms. Capitulo-Saide is confident students will have a great experience this year.
