Emily Plachta is looking forward to the new school year. The Huntington High School junior is an academic and athletic star. She sets high standards and breathtaking goals for herself.
“This year, I am very excited to take Advanced Placement Environmental Science and AP Chemistry as well as AP US History with Mr. [Kenneth] Donovan,” Ms. Plachta said. “I’m also really excited to work with Mrs. [Kristin] Singer again this year in AP Studio Art: Drawing.”
The teenager maintains very high grades and is extremely involved around the high school. She plays on three varsity Blue Devil teams: soccer, basketball and lacrosse.
“This summer I volunteered with Huntington Warriors to help provide kids in our community with books and clothes, which I plan on continuing into the school year,” Ms. Plachta said. “I am also very excited to continue my virtual internship at Mount Sinai Cystic Fibrosis Center, which has been an eye-opening experience.”
Ms. Plachta’s work ethic is second to none. She studies hard, plays hard and seeks excellence in everything she does. Perfectionist? Definitely maybe. The teenager is also striving to be the best version of herself.
“As of right now, I am planning on going into a career in the medical field, most likely as a doctor or medical engineer,” Ms. Plachta said. “As for colleges, I have been looking in the Northeast at schools that have great pre-med programs. Some of these schools include the University of Pennsylvania, American University, Princeton University and Bucknell University.”
