The Nathan Hale chapter of the National Honor Society at Huntington High School is set to begin the selection process for the 2020/21 class.
Dozens of juniors and seniors are expected to apply for membership based upon their respective academic record. The purpose of the National Honor Society, a community service organization, is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.
The application process will begin with eligible seniors. Information for juniors will be announced soon.
The four areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character are the four criteria upon which the selection of an individual is based. All candidates with the academic qualifications for membership have been sent an invitation to apply. Applications must be accessed and returned through Google Docs.
The application process for invited seniors begins with a candidate accessing and completing the membership selection packet found on the candidate classroom page (invitation only). The deadline for submitting an application is Friday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.
Following submission of application materials, faculty members are given the opportunity to provide information relative to an applicant’s character, leadership, and service. The information is collected and presented to the Faculty Council Membership Selection Committee. Candidates will be notified of the decision of the selection committee no later than October 20.
