The J. Taylor Finley Middle School wrestling program is coming off an undefeated 10-0 campaign last winter. Can it come close to duplicating that same magic in 2020?
Finley is coached by Chris Taylor and Anthony Annunziata. Dozens of seventh and eighth graders came out for this year’s squad, which practices in the Finley gym.
Five of last year’s seventh grade stars are now wrestling on the Huntington High School team as eighth graders and they are all performing well. Still, Finley has many talented wrestlers still on its roster and many who are hoping to emerge in a big way this winter.
The roster includes seventh graders Sal Barone, Noel Campos, Geovanny Castillo, Jerson Contreras-Moriera, Gavin Deegan, Robert Giordano, Josue Gamez, Tyler Hotine, Geovanny Iglesias, John Joyce, Tommy Kline, Jonathan Kraft, Brian Lynch, Kevin Maldonado, Timothy McDonald, Charles Michaelian, Lucas Miller, Abdullah Muslim, Ethan Naima, Zachary Schnitzer, Thomas Smith, Joseph Tavarez, James Taylor Jr., Patrick Tito, Justin Villatoro, Adrian White and Luka Zivkovic.
Eighth graders on the Finley mat squad include Cristian Alfaro-Bueso, Fredy Alvarez-Lawrence, Justin Alvarez, Carmine Carusone, Sam Cirlincione, Jeremiah Curtis, Kevin Diaz, Jasper Elgart, Jose Flores, Brandon Fucci, Emerson Garay, Ethan Goleski, Gerson Granados, Jonathan Granito, Peter Leavy, Rigo Maldonado, Edwin Marroquin, Brayan Mejia, Axel Parks, Jeffrey Quintanilla, Jorge Reyes, Alexis Rodriquez, Christian Soriano, Andrew Sullivan, Taliaferro Brezill, Christopher Valladares, Daniel Van Arsdale and Jose Villatoro.
Finley will wrestle a 10 meet schedule with home contests against Copiague, East Northport, Brentwood North, Northport and Nesaquake. Away meets are slated with Elwood, Hauppauge, Brentwood West, Kings Park and Oldfield.
Finley’s home matches will be held in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gym at 4:30 p.m.
