Back by popular demand is Huntington UFSD’s intramural wrestling program. The program is open to fourth, fifth and sixth graders attending either Woodhull Intermediate School or Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.
Registration will be held Tuesday, February 11 at 6:45 p.m. in the hallway outside of the wrestling room at Huntington High School. A one-hour practice session will follow the registration. (Sixth graders participating in the trip to Greenkill can register for the program on the first night they are able to attend.)
The program is offered free of charge. The Huntington Booster Club has purchased t-shirts for the participants.
Sessions will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, February 11, 13, 25 and 27 and March 3, 5, 10, 12 in the high school wrestling room near the gymnasium.
Participants can use the program to prepare to compete in the St. Patrick’s Youth Wrestling Festival at Walt Whitman High School on Saturday, March 14.
The program is open to youngsters of all skill levels ranging from novice to advanced. It will feature instruction and drilling in the same techniques and philosophy that has made the Blue Devil varsity wrestling team famous over the years.
Sessions will be led by current Huntington wrestling coaching staff members. Blue Devil wrestlers will assist at each of the sessions.
The program is intended for those with a sincere interest in learning more about the sport of wrestling. All club members are expected to do their best to attend each session and participate fully in the workout.
Flyers are being distributed to students in physical education classes and are also available for download on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu.
