The Huntington girls’ indoor track and field team turned in another impressive set of performances last weekend, finishing third in a field of ten teams at the Section XI League II championships at Suffolk-West in Brentwood.
The Blue Devil 4x400m relay comprised of freshman Hope Bilkey and sophomores Analisse Batista, Caroline O’Rourke and Brianna Halbeisen easily captured first place in 4:16.57.
Batista was also sensational in winning the 600m run in 1:36.79. Sophomore teammate Caroline O’Rourke finished seventh in 1:48.22.
Senior Alicia Brooks finished second in the 55m dash in a time of 7.40 seconds. Sophomore Olivia Conte placed second in the 55m hurdles in a time of 8.81 seconds. Sophomore Kiana Nosile finished second in shot put with a toss of 35-02.00 feet.
All things considered, Huntington coaches Mark Jackson and Eddie Santos were pleased with how the Blue Devils performed on the track and in the field events.
In other action:
- Freshman Hope Bilkey, sophomores Olivia Conte and Analisse Batista and senior Alicia Brooks placed second in the 4x200m relay.
- Sophomore Erin Ye finished third in the 1500m race walk in a time of 8:16.29.
- Huntington’s 4x800m relay consisting of seventh grade Elizabeth James, freshman Sophie Bradford and juniors Lanaya Swazey and Ella Siepel placed sixth in 11:40.65.
- Senior Alicia Brooks placed third in long jump with a leap of 16-11.00 feet.
- Sophomore Olivia Conte placed sixth in triple jump with an effort that was measured at 34-07.00 feet.
- Freshman Hope Bilkey placed second in the 300m dash in 43.71 seconds, just 37/100ths of a second off the winning time. Sophomore Brianna Halbeisen finished seventh in 44.16.
The Blue Devils finished third in the team standings with 76 points, behind Bay Shore (108) and Walt Whitman (83) and ahead of Connetquot (55), Half Hollow Hills East (54), Sachem North (28), Smithtown West (19), Northport (19) Copiague (17) and Lindenhurst (6).
