Huntington junior Nasir Youngblood enjoyed a breakout football season, rushing for more than 1,200 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns. The teenager was named All-State this week by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Youngblood rushed 138 times for 1,260 yards for an astonishing average of 9.1 yards per carry. He scored 18 touchdowns to place him among Suffolk’s leaders. He helped lead the Blue Devils to the playoffs, where he scored a pair of touchdowns in a loss at North Babylon.

The speedy Youngblood also runs on Huntington’s championship winter and spring track teams. He’s known for his effusive and affable personality.
“I feel that football went well,” said Youngblood about the 2019 season. “Sadly, we lost in the first round, but we win some, we lose some. It only makes us better. But overall, the season went very well. We just have to improve on our mistakes.”
Among Youngblood’s most memorable games last fall were incredible performances against Copiague, Smithtown East and Northport. In a 55-7 win over Copiague, the junior carried the ball 14 times for 202 yards and five touchdowns. In a 27-20 overtime victory over visiting Smithtown East, he rushed 23 times for 283 yards and three touchdowns. In a 27-0 win at Northport, he carried 23 times for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Youngblood is known for his open field running and ability to break long gains. He is also an exceptional kick returner.
The teenager was earlier named to the All-County team. “Well, I don’t really have too much to say about the awards that I’ve won,” Youngblood said. “It just feels good to win games. “I’m going to just work hard to get even more next year. Concerning the individual glory, it just feels good to have my name out there.”
Does he think he can reach the magical level of 2,000 yards rushing in a single season? “Yes, I believe that I can,” Youngblood sat. But such personal stats are not really what he is seeking.
“The goal is to just win it all; game by game,” the junior said.
