Huntington looked strong at last weekend’s Molloy Stanner Games at the Armory in Manhattan.

Alicia Brooks won the varsity long jump with a leap of 18-02.00 feet. Olivia Conte finished first in the sophomore 55m hurdles in a time of 8.95 seconds. Hope Bilkey captured the varsity 300m run in a time of 43.47 seconds.

Analisse Batista finished second in the invitational 300m run in a time of 40.02 seconds. Anthony Joseph was second in the boys’ invitational 300m run, crossing the finish line in 35.28 seconds.

Hope Bilkey was second in the freshman 55m dash in a time of 7.81 seconds. Analisse Batista was third in the sophomore 55m dash in 7.66 seconds and Brianna Halbeisen was sixth in 7.78 seconds.

CJ Kiviat finished fourth in the varsity 600m run in a time of 1:23.91. Rahliek Thomason placed ninth in the varsity triple jump with leaps that measured 42-00.00 feet.

In the invitational shot put, Mekai Butts (45-01.25 feet) and Gary Barash (44.11.25) placed ninth and tenth, respectively. Mya Davis finished tenth in the girls’ invitational shot put with a toss of 29.11-75 feet.

Huntington took third place in the 4x200m varsity relay on the wings of the efforts of Nasir Youngblood, Jason Turner, CJ Kiviat and Anthony Joseph. The Blue Devils ran the race in 1:32.41.

In the freshman girls’ 1600m sprint medley relay, Hope Bilkey, Amirah Beverly, Maryuri Nunez and Elizabeth James placed four in a field of 17 in a time of 4:53.98. Huntington was the highest finishing public school team.

H-ton Swimmers Keep Winning

The Huntington boys’ swimming and diving team continues to do well. The squad entered this week with a 4-2 record after being nipped by Smithtown by three points in its most recent meet, 89.5-86.5.

Like many other high schools with a swimming team, Huntington has combined to field a joint team. The Blue Devils are joined by athletes from Harborfields and Walt Whitman. Huntington’s Meg McConnell serves as the joint team’s head coach.

The Huntington swimmers have claimed victories over Northport (93-87), Sayville/Bayport (102-72), Ward Melville (104-64) and Brentwood (95-54). The Blue Devils also fell to Connetquot/East Islip (94-86).

Huntington’s roster includes seventh grader Dylan Proctor; freshmen Pierre Leroy and Marty Newman; sophomores Jonathan Larice and Will Weber; junior Logan Deegan and seniors Javier Vias and Christopher Weber. Athletes from Harborfields and Walt Whitman comprise the balance of the roster.

Final Home Mat Meet

The last home wrestling meet will be held on Friday (January 17) when league foe Newfield visits for a 4 p.m. meet. A meet between to the two team’s junior varsity wrestlers will follow the varsity match. Both squads feature some of Suffolk’s best matmen.

Blue Devil Fencing Teams Stay Competitive

It’s official; the Blue Devil boys’ and girls’ fencing teams are much more competitive this winter than they have been in recent seasons.

The Huntington girls’ fencing team edged Centereach earlier this week, 16-11. The victory improved the Blue Devils’ record to 4-3 (2-2 in Suffolk League I).

The Huntington girls’ have also defeated Bay Shore (19-8), Lindenhurst (14-13) and Walt Whitman (16-11) this winter. The Blue Devils have been turned back by Half Hollow Hills (21-6), Commack (17-10) and Ward Melville (22-5).

The boys’ squad dropped a 15-12 decision to Centereach. The Blue Devil boys’ fencing team has topped Walt Whitman (14-13), Half Hollow Hills (15-12), Lindenhurst (16-11) and Brentwood (14-13) this winter. Huntington has lost to Commack (19-8) and Ward Melville (18-9) in addition to this week’s defeat by Centereach.

Kevin Drake Scores 25 Points

The Huntington boys’ basketball team won an exciting non-league game when it topped visiting Stony Brook, 62-55. The Blue Devils trailed at halftime, 34-33, but rallied to go on a 19-9 third quarter run to gain the upper hand.

Kevin Drake led Huntington with 25 points. Danya Danziger had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists and Max Rentsch added seven points. Matt Girimonti and Omari Stephen had six points each. Lex Colato and Michael Wright both scored two points.

Drake connected for five 3-point baskets in the game.

Newfield Edges Blue Devils, 71-57

The Huntington boys’ basketball team stayed close with visiting Newfield during the open quarter before slowly falling behind. The Blue Devils trailed at halftime, 42-30 and they were never able to make up the deficit, falling 71-57 in league play.

Kevin Drake led Huntington with 17 points. Max Rentsch added 13 points and Omari Stephen scored 12 points. Adrian Brooks had 11 points and Danya Danziger scored four points. Drake and Rentsch each dropped three 3-point baskets in the game.

H-ton Rally Falls Short

The Huntington girls’ basketball team fell behind early at Newfield, trailing 14-7 after the first quarter and 29-14 at halftime. The Blue Devils rallied in the third frame to cut their deficit to 38-28, but never could overcome their disadvantage, dropping a 50-39 verdict in league play.

Emily Plachta led Huntington with 10 points. Abby Maichin had eight points and Meg Byrnes added seven points. Junie Nosile scored six points and Jordan Forte had five points. Katie Browne scored two points and Gianna Forte added one point from the free throw line.

Northport Proves Too Much to Handle

Huntington knew it was going to be a tough game. After all, the Northport boys’ basketball team is in contention for the county championship. The Blue Devils gave it their all, but fell short last Saturday afternoon, 67-42.

Northport jumped out to an early 21-11 lead and went ahead 38-18 by halftime. The Tigers effectively put the game away with a 22-14 third quarter run.

Omari Stephen paced the Blue Devils with 11 points. Danya Danziger scored seven points and Max Rentsch added six points. Adrian Brooks and Matt Girimonti both scored four points. Dylan Coleman, Charles Girimonti and Michael Wright all had three points each. Kevin Drake scored one point.

Abby Maichin’s 13 Points Lead Huntington

The Huntington girls’ basketball team wasn’t able to match top ranked Northport last Saturday afternoon. The Tigers built an insurmountable lead and never looked back, defeating the Blue Devils, 73-37 in league play.

Northport raced out to a 22-4 first quarter lead, which grew to 37-12 by halftime. The Tigers then outscored the Blue Devils in the third quarter, 21-8 to put the game out of reach.

Abby Maichin led Huntington with 13 points. Jordan Forte had nine points and Emily Plachta added eight points. Alexa Amorison, Meg Byrnes and Holly Wright all had two points each. Gianni Forte added a point from the free throw line.

Smithtown West Overwhelms Blue Devils

A powerful Smithtown West team proved too much for the Huntington boys’ basketball squad to handle as the Bulls overwhelmed the Blue Devils, 69-37.

Smithtown West bolted out to a 20-12 first quarter lead, which it extended to 37-21 by halftime. Huntington’s deficit continued to grow in the second half, ballooning to 55-30 after three quarters.

Kevin Drake led Huntington with 11 points. Dan Danziger had nine points and Omari Stephen added eight points. Lex Colato, Adrian Brooks and Jack Monahan combined to score seven points.

Alum Named to SUNY Potsdam President's List

Huntington High School alum Wilber Parada has earned a spot on the President’s List at SUNY Potsdam. He is majoring in biology and planning for a career as a physical therapist.

Students must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be named to the President’s List.

A member of Huntington’s Class of 2016, Parada has played midfield on SUNY Potsdam’s soccer team for the past four years, serving as team captain this past fall. He started 48 of 65 career college games. He was named to the SUNY Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll in 2019.

Blue Devils Set another Meet Record

Huntington girls’ track stars Brianna Halbeisen, Caroline O’Rourke, Olivia Conte and Analisse Batista won the sophomore division 4x400m relay at the US Air Force Hispanic Games in Manhattan in a new meet record time of 4:13.46.

Tyriek Mays-McKoy Wins Gold Medal

Huntington’ Tyriek Mays-McKoy claimed a gold medal in the sophomore division of the 55m dash at the US Air Force Hispanic Games at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan. The teenager crossed the finish line in the blazing time of 6.62 seconds, a mere 3/100ths of a second off the meet record. The field included 41 runners.

Quincy Chery Wins Gold; Sets New Record

Huntington’s Quincy Chery won a gold medal in the freshman/sophomore 55m hurdles and set a new meet record at the US Air Force Hispanic Games in Manhattan. The sophomore Blue Devil great went wire to wire in 8.28 seconds to break the previous record of 8.31 held by Maryland’s Justin Smith.

Blue Devils Win in Photo Finish

An exceptional group of four Blue Devil tenth graders pulled off an impressive upset on Friday night at the US Air Force Hispanic Games in New York City. The sophomore 4x200m relay team consisting of lead leg Julio Martinez, second leg Josiah Melendez, third leg Bryce Robinson and anchor Tyriek Mays-McKoy who split 22.22 seconds to nip highly regarded Newburgh Free Academy at the wire in a time of 1:34.16. Huntington won by 3/100ths of a second despite botching a handoff during the race.

“It was a photo finish that seemed like an eternity,” said head coach Ron Wilson about the wait for official results to be announced. “What a great and exciting race!”

H-ton Relay Qualifies for Nationals

Huntington High School’s boys’ track 1600m sprint medley relay won a gold medal at the US Air Force Hispanic Games at the Armory and qualified for the New Balance Indoor National Championships in the event.

The Blue Devils finished the race in a time of 3:36.17 to eclipse the qualifying standard of 3:37 and come from behind to edge runner-up Massapequa and the rest of the 21 team field.

Leading off was 400m runner junior CJ Kiviat followed by second leg 200m runner junior Anthony Joseph, third leg 200m runner junior Jason Turner and anchor 800m runner senior Justin Stevens, who split an amazing 1:58.

Erin Ye Wins Race-Walk at Hispanic Games

Huntington sophomore Erin Ye won the 1500m race-walk freshman/sophomore race at the US Air Force Hispanic Games in Manhattan. The Blue Devil star crossed the finish line in a time of 8:27.50 to easily top the field of 24 competitors.

Relay Wins Silver; Ranked No. 5 in USA

The Huntington girls’ track team’s 4x200m relay won silver medals at the US Air Force Hispanic Games in Manhattan, setting a new Blue Devil record time in the event of 1:42.35. The relay team consists of Alicia Brooks, Analisse Batista, Hope Bilkey and Olivia Conte. The record time is the fifth fastest in the country this winter.

Rogel & Siepel Sensational in Steeplechase Invitational

Huntington juniors Valerie Rogel and Ella Siepel were magnificent in the steeplechase invitational race at the US Air Force Hispanic Games at the Armory. The two teenagers navigated around the course, scaling various barriers and leaping over obstacles. Rogel placed third and Siepel captured fourth place.
