The Huntington School Board has adopted a proposed district calendar for the 2020/21 school year. Trustees voted unanimously at their January 13 public meeting to approve the plan, which will have school begin on Tuesday, September 8 and finish on Friday, June 25, 2021.
Teachers and staff are required to be in their respective building for meetings on Thursday, September 3, with students starting classes the following Tuesday. There will be 181 days of instruction with two other days set aside for faculty conferences. Two contingency days are also built into the plan to address possible school closings due to snow or other emergencies.
Classes will not be held on September 28 (Yom Kippur), October 12 (Columbus Day), November 3 (Election Day/Superintendent’s Conference Day), November 11 (Veterans Day), November 26-27 (Thanksgiving recess), December 24-January 1 (winter recess), January 18 (Martin Luther King Day), February 15-19 (mid-winter recess), March 29-April 5 (spring recess), May 13 (Eid al-Fitr) and May 28-31 (Memorial Day). There are no days off in June.
If there are no weather related closures, May 13 and May 28 will be converted to vacation days. If school is closed due to a weather emergency, classes will be held on May 28. If a second closure is required, classes will also be held on May 13.
