Registration for Huntington High School’s spring driver education program is coming.
Registration will be held for Huntington High School juniors and seniors on Monday, January 13 from 2:30–3:30 p.m. Registration will be held for sophomores and all other students on Tuesday, January 14 between 2:30–3:30 p.m. (Sophomores will register first followed by all other students.)
Each of the registration sessions will be held in room 122 – the office of the director of health, physical education and interscholastic athletics. Students must register themselves. No one will be permitted to leave their last class early to line-up in the hallway.
The program is open to any student who will be at least 16 years old by January 6 and who holds a valid learner’s permit, which must be presented at registration.
There are 70 openings, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration fee is $500 for residents ($525 for non-residents). Checks should be made payable to: Huntington UFSD Driver Education.
An application for the program can be downloaded by logging onto the Huntington School District’s website at www.hufsd.edu. Go to Main Navigation and then to Resources (on right side top of page) and select Driver Education. Scroll down to Driver Education Documents.
The program will run from February 3 through the week of May 18. Lecture classes will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday of each week. Students must attend both days. Road classes will be conducted Monday through Saturday. Students must attend one two-hour road class per week. Individual schedules will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis on the day of registration.
Students are allowed to miss a maximum of three classes. However, these classes must be made up immediately. Once a student misses a fourth class, they will be dropped from the program and will be ineligible for a “blue card” (MV-285). Classes cannot be made up once a new semester has started.
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the program each day. No refunds will be provided once classes have begun.
To be eligible for a “blue card” a student must satisfactorily complete 24 hours of lecture and 24 hours in the car during the spring program.
