While Huntington High School’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team wasn’t always able to put up more points than their opponents, the Blue Devils did improve their play, game by game.
The squad was coached by Huntington alum Patrick Reilly. The Blue Devils were captained by Aidan McNulty, John Marziliano and Liam McDonald.
Marziliano led the team in assists while McDonald had the most rebounds. John Chirico had team bests in scoring and steals.
“It was a great group of guys who always worked hard and respected one another,” Reilly said. “As the season went along, I could really tell the guys really appreciated one another.”
A sophomore forward, Chirico enjoyed an outstanding season. “He had the best effort on the team and was our biggest scorer,” Reilly said. “He never missed a practice.”
A talented sophomore, McNulty shined at guard. “He was the best player on the team skill wise and set a great example for our younger guys,” Reilly said.
Huntington topped Babylon (54-40), Smithtown East (36-32), Stony Brook (63-37) and Copiague (50-47). The Blue Devils dropped close contests to Cold Spring Harbor (51-45) and Smithtown West (54-50).
“We won more games this year than the previous season,” Reilly said. “Practices were more focused and as a result, we won more.”
The roster also included eighth graders Daniel McNulty, Za’Khie Ramos and Jayden Taylor; freshmen Joseph Algieri, James Rosselli and Nicholas Sineno and sophomores Finn Cocoman, Amari Huitt-May, Harrison Krywak and Christopher Maichin.
“Since many of our guys were sophomores, we should be much younger next winter,” Reilly said.
