John Marziliano is just like all of his classmates. He can’t wait for the COVID-19 pandemic to relent and for life at Huntington High School and across the country and world to get back to normal. Sports are a large part of the junior’s life and he can’t wait for interscholastic athletics to resume.

Mr. Marziliano is striving to stay positive and do the best he can under the most trying circumstances. He’s a hard worker and a popular young man with a great group of friends.

Despite the many challenges students and teachers are facing, the teenager’s junior year is off to a very nice start. “The classes that especially interest me are Virtual Enterprise with Mrs. [Paige] Tyree and my social studies class with Mr. [Frederick] Bisogno and Mr. [Anthony] Troffa,” Mr. Marziliano said.

A member of Huntington’s National Honor Society, Science Honor Society and Math Honor Society chapters, Mr. Marziliano also participates in the high school’s Key Club. He plans to play on the Blue Devil football and basketball teams if interscholastic athletics are given a green light to resume in January.

Among Mr. Marziliano’s closest friends are Kevin Drake, Andrew Schirripa, Nick Grover, Dylan Coleman, Max Rentch, Liam McDonald, Dylan Schnitzer, Robbie smith, Brian Sosnowski, Matt Beasley, Henry Vohs, Matt Lange, Henry Stein and Johnny Chirico.

“One teacher that has stood out to me over my three years of high school has been my ninth and eleventh grades social studies teacher, Mr. Bisogno,” Mr. Marziliano said. “He has been a great and reliable teacher that trusts me.”

Mr. Marziliano’s advice to incoming ninth graders? “Play a sport,” he said. “It keeps you active after school and creates more friendships.”

While the teenager can’t wait to get back on the field with his teammates, he is doing everything he can to make the year successful on every front. He is also beginning to plan for the future.

“I am generally interested in northeast colleges, but one that has especially caught my eye is Binghamton University,” Mr. Marziliano said. “I want to study something related to business.”

The junior has been enjoying his time at Huntington. “My experience at the high school has been great,” Mr. Marziliano said. “I’ve made many new friends and memories that I’m truly going to miss once I graduate and go to college.”
