Matthew Beasley is busy pursuing his interests and laying the groundwork for his future. The Huntington High School junior is working hard in his classes and participating in extracurricular activities that offer him opportunities for public service and hours of enjoyment.
The teenager takes all of his classes seriously and he spends time on each of them, striving to master the content and earn good grades. He participates in class discussions and interacts well with his classmates and teachers.
“One class that I look forward to daily is Virtual Enterprise taught by Mrs. [Paige] Tyree,” Mr. Beasley said. “In Virtual Enterprise we get to experience the feeling of working in a business environment. The company I work with is called Poseidon and we have a great time in the class.”
The junior is busy outside of class, too. “This year, I plan on being a part of multiple clubs,” Mr. Beasley said. “I’m a part of Key Club, Habitat for Humanity and National Honor Society, as well as specific subject honor society’s such as English, Math and Science. I also plan on playing baseball in the spring.”
Mr. Beasley is popular with his classmates. He is viewed as a loyal, trustworthy and valuable friend and teammate.
“Some of my closer friends include Henry Vohs, John Marziliano, Brian Sosnowski, Andrew Schirripa, Matt Lange, Johnny Chirico, Henry Stein and Nick Grover,” Mr. Beasley said.
The teenager has also developed many fruitful and satisfying relationships with the high school’s faculty members.
“One teacher I’ve had that has stood out was my ninth and tenth grade social studies teacher Mrs. [Lauren] Desiderio,” Mr. Beasley said. “Mrs. Des was always very nice and has been my favorite teacher that I’ve had in the high school. Although I’ve liked all my teachers, Mrs. Des has been my favorite.”
Mr. Beasley’s advice to incoming freshmen? “Do homework,” he said. “Doing your homework is an easy grade and also helps you learn the topic. I would also recommend participating in clubs or playing sports.”
As he looks ahead to the future, the junior is starting to lay some of the groundwork for college and beyond.
“I’m interested in colleges in the northeast,” Mr. Beasley said. “I think a school in a city like Boston would be really cool. I am also looking to study something business related.”
Like every Huntington student, Mr. Beasley is looking forward to the COVID-19 pandemic relenting for many reasons, including being able to play one final season with the Blue Devil baseball team.
“I’ve really enjoyed my experience at Huntington High School,” Mr. Beasley said. “I’ve made a lot of friends throughout the years and will miss it when I go off to college.”
