Karley Mathew’s is always working toward accomplishing a set of goals she has established for herself. Yes, she is that hard of a worker. The Huntington High School Class of 2020 is headed to Siena College outside of Albany with a new collection of hopes and dreams.
“Once I visited the campus I knew this school offered majors of my interest as well as a friendly campus that offers lots of student activities that I am interested in,” she said.

Ms. Mathews cites having the support of her family friends and teachers as the key to her success. That support has paved the way for accomplishing her goals.
“Huntington High School has prepared me for college by offering a wide range of courses and extracurricular activities ranging from athletics to supporting the community,” Ms. Mathews said.
The teenager has participated in the Environmental Club and the Youth Climate Summit and Habitat for Humanity along with the Art Honor Society and the Blue Devil varsity track and field team. She was chosen as a Natural Helper and
“Some of my favorite courses have been Advanced Placement Environmental Science and AP Drawing,” Ms. Mathews said. “These courses have sparked my interest in protecting the environment. I also enjoy art and how it can be incorporated into serving the community.”
Ms. Mathews has especially enjoyed participating in the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and working alongside the organization’s faculty advisor, Robert Gilmor III. She traveled with the group for a house building project in New Orleans. She’s also been a member of the Blue Devil marching band for the past four years.
The new Huntington alum’s advice to incoming freshmen? “Participate in activities and clubs because it’s a great way to make new friends and also stay focused on your class work because success in high school is an important stepping stone to your adult life,” Ms. Mathews said.
The teenager qualified for the designation of Distinguished Senior after recording an academic grade average of at least a 90 during every semester of high school. Huntington teachers expect Ms. Mathews to continue impressing everyone in college classrooms.
“I have had a great experience in Huntington High School because of the wide range of classes, activities and caring teachers,” Ms. Mathews said.
