Andrew Amitrano has an inquiring mind that thrives on challenges. The Huntington High School Class of 2020 member is this year’s recipient of the Technology Award presented by Principal Brenden Cusack.
Mr. Amitrano is quite studious, having earned the designation of Distinguished Senior after compiling an academic record that included notching a grade average in excess of 90 during every semester of high school. But the teenager also has a sense of humor that he likes to share with others.
Andrew Amitrano claimed Huntington High School's 2020 Technology Award.
The new Huntington alum plans to study mechanical engineering at New York Institute of Technology.
The Technology Award is presented annually to a graduating senior “who strives to further his/her skills in the area of technology and who also works to expand and enrich the program by assisting the staff and other students,” Mr. Cusack said.
A young man of many talents, Mr. Amitrano shined in everything from woodworking to robotics. He participated in a credit bearing internship with technology teacher and robotics club faculty advisor Brian Reynolds, assisting other high school students in daily classes.
“Andrew contributed greatly to our school community in many ways, including in our student courtyard,” Mr. Cusack said. “He worked tirelessly to build 13 Adirondack chairs that provide all of the beautiful seating for our students. While I somehow do not believe it was entirely his idea, he also helped to prank me personally by replacing all of the chairs in my office one evening with those very Adirondack chairs, which I arrived to find in the morning.”
Mr. Amitrano said that he strived to have fun in his classes with “great friends and teachers.” The teenager is well known for a willingness to try new things and accept challenges.
“A young man of character, humor and skill, it gives me great pleasure to present this year’s Technology Award to Andrew,” Mr. Cusack said.
