The stars of Huntington High School’s Class of 2020 come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Lucius Hart is one of them.
Every person that walks the earth is unique with their own story to tell. Mr. Hart’s story is a compelling one and downright inspiring. He’s this year’s recipient of the Principal’s Award, which includes a plaque and a $1,000 stipend courtesy of Irvin Simon Photographers,
Huntington High School Principal Brenden Cusack.
In a class as talented as this year’s group of Huntington seniors, Principal Brenden Cusack said it was no easy task tapping only one for this very special award.
“It is always a challenging selection and this year proved to be challenging as well,” Mr. Cusack said. “The Principal’s Award is related to great character, dedication and growth over time. This year’s recipient embodies all of these qualities and more.”
Those students who might doubt themselves or their capacity to step-up and achieve under pressure should consider Mr. Hart and what he worked hard to accomplish
“This young man came to me early in the year to increase his course load to insure he would be on track to graduate with his peers,” Mr. Cusack said. “He chose a very challenging schedule, which was most definitely daunting on paper. He assured me and his counselor, Mrs. [Lauren] Brunoni that he would do everything in his power to achieve his goals and we agreed to this difficult schedule. From Day One he hit homeruns again and again, academically achieving 90s in just about everything. He could not have made us more proud if he tried. This young man is as unassuming as they come.”
Mr. Hart intends to continue his studies at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood. “It gives me great pleasure to provide my Principal’s Award to this fine young man,” Mr. Cusack said.
