By this time each spring, tentative Suffolk high school football schedules are usually available. That’s not the case this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But not to worry Blue Devil fans, it’s only a matter of time.
A final decision on league placement hasn’t been made. That’s necessary to develop the regular season schedules. Huntington High School knows that it will play in Division II, but there could be a few changes as other schools move in or out of the division.
After the league composition is set, teams will be seeded, which is also necessary to develop the schedules. The pandemic has put everything on hold.
Once the Blue Devils have their tentative schedule, Huntington officials can also plan a date for the annual Homecoming Day celebration. There will be four home games and four away games.
Huntington head coach Steve Muller and his assistants have already spent several months planning for next fall. The Blue Devils believe they will be able to field a very competitive team. Last year’s varsity compiled a 5-4 record and reached the playoffs. The junior varsity squad went 6-1-1 and the team at J. Taylor Finley Middle School was undefeated at 6-0.
The Blue Devils are graduating 14 seniors including Gary Barash, Jaylen Bush, Vincent Caravetto, Lex Colato, Chas Forte, Andy Garcia, Jack Jamison, Jon Koumas, Pat Langton, Aedan McDonald, RJ Moreno, Aidan Mrotzek, Tazadon Smith and Rahliek Thomason-Jackson.
Muller owns a career record of 132-91 in 24 seasons. The Huntington football program has and all-time record of 425-314-30 in 96 seasons.
