While Anna Wickey always knew she wanted to play field hockey in college, choosing the right school was a process that needed some time to play out. After considering all of her alternatives, the Huntington High School senior has signed an NCAA Division I letter of intent to play at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Ms. Wickey has been one of the best athletes in Huntington’s Class of 2020 since she started kindergarten classes at Washington Primary School. She has always been a standout and would probably be a star in any sport. She’s shined for the Blue Devils on the field hockey and softball fields.
Huntington senior Anna Wickey is headed to Temple University to play field hockey.
“Although I had attended many clinics and communicated with several coaches, I was honestly a little lost in the recruitment process at the time,” Ms. Wickey said. “I had always been interested in the Philly area, so when the Temple coach reached out to me, I immediately knew that I had to visit the campus. Once I participated in Temple’s clinic and toured the campus, I knew right away it was where I wanted to be.”
A member of Huntington’s National Honor Society chapter, Ms. Wickey plans to pursue an academic major in psychology at Tempe, although “I’m not really sure what career path I want to take,” she said.
Ms. Wickey spends her time at the high school attending classes and playing sports. She participates in various community based activities with different groups. Her favorite subject has been English.
“My advice to the incoming freshmen would be to make the most of your four years of high school and don’t take anything for granted,” Ms. Wickey said. “Go join clubs, go support the school’s sports teams, go to every school event. Because before you know it, it’s all going to be over.”
Ms. Wickey is coming off a superb senior field hockey season. She tallied 10 goals and four assists en route to All-State honors. She can’t to join the college ranks.
“I’m so fortunate and lucky to have attended Huntington UFSD,” Ms. Wickey said. “My experience has been unforgettable and I will always remember the friendships I’ve made and the memories I’ve created.”
