Jefferson Primary School sailed into its third month of the current school with confidence and optimism. Students and teachers are working closely together and getting an awful lot done.

More than 300 students spread across grades K-3 are working hard. Just about all of them have built durable bonds with their teachers and the aides and monitors who provide support services.

Jefferson faculty members like to keep students in the building “pumped up” and excited about learning. Since the school opened in September 1962, its classrooms have been filled with enthusiastic youngsters and this year is no different.

Jefferson honors students each month awards. When a Jefferson student displays commendable behavior, teachers and staff members “spot” the youngster. An all-grades assembly is held each month to recognize the students who have been “spotted” the most.

Why a Spot Award? That’s an easy question to answer. The Jefferson School mascot is a jaguar, an animal known for its spotted appearance. Every Jefferson student is trying to get spotted so they can be an award winner, too.

Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide recently took time to honor an especially noteworthy group of students who garnered Citizen of the Month awards.

The honorees include Jade Adwar, Diego Andrade, Luca Campos, Rosie Carrillo, Sutter Flynn, Maeve Frintzilas, Julia Garcia Alvarez, Olivia Guerrero, Gabriel MacManus, Iman Qasim, Diana Quintanilli, Angelly Rivas Jerez, Lindsay Rodriguez, Ligia Romero, Valery Say Alvarez, Naya Shaw and Lindsey Zilm

The youngsters all demonstrated safety, respect and responsibility. Ms. Capitulo-Saide posed for a commemorative photo with the group in the school gymnasium. Each of the students was presented with a handsome certificate to bring home to their loved ones.

There’s a lot happening at Jefferson this fall. On Thursday the school is holding STEM/Math Family Night at 6:30 p.m. On Friday, December 6, the Jefferson student leadership team is sponsoring a fundraising “student boutique/vendor night.” A holding songfest is set for Tuesday, December 17.
