Three Honor Societies Set Inductions for January

Three Huntington High School academic honor societies will hold inductions during the month of January

December 16, 2019

Three of Huntington High School’s academic honor societies have already held their annual induction ceremonies and three more will hold theirs in January as dozens of scholars join the fold of the respective organizations.

Huntington’s National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Science Honor Society held their induction ceremonies in the fall. The coming round of inductions will feature the Math Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Social Studies Honor Society.

Math Honor Society

Teachers Monica Racz and Jordan Schessler serve as the Math Honor Society’s faculty advisors. Candidates for membership in the organization must have an average of 85 or better in math classes through Algebra 2. Students must be enrolled in a math course beyond Algebra 2 to be eligible for induction.

Information about membership requirements is shared with students during math classes. The deadline for membership was December 1. An induction ceremony is scheduled for January 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The Math Honor Society meets after-school in Room 130 on the first and third Wednesday of each month.

Contact Ms. Racz (mracz@hufsd.edu) or Ms. Schessler (jschessler@hufsd.edu) for more information.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Teachers Victoria Garbarino and Brian Stellato serve as the Tri-M Music Honor Society’s faculty advisors. Membership considerations include past service hours, leadership, demonstrated dedication to musical endeavors and overall school citizenship.

Prospective members must have participated in the NYSSMA solo festival in the prior spring season with a Level 5 or 6 solo or ensemble or All-State solo. To maintain membership students must attend regularly scheduled meetings and continue to participate in NYSSMA each year until graduation. An essay is a required portion of the application process.

Membership applications are made available during all music classes. The deadline for membership was November 25. An induction ceremony is scheduled for January 16 at 7 p.m. in the School Heritage Museum.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society meets once or twice a month on Wednesday or Thursday in Room 101.

An essay is required for the application.

Membership applications are available from Mr. Donovan. This year’s deadline was in mid-November. An induction ceremony is scheduled for January 30 at 7 p.m. in the School Heritage Museum.
