The Huntington Blue Devil marching band will participate in its first New York State Field Band Conference competition on Sunday at Brentwood.

Huntington will vie in a field that includes bands from Floral Park, Midland Park, Sachem, Hicksville, Copiague, Lindenhurst, Roslyn, Levittown-Division Avenue, Mineola, Malverne and Brentwood. The Blue Devils will perform their 2019 field show at 1:10 p.m. sharp.

On Saturday, the band will march down Oakwood Road in the Huntington Unity Day Parade and play at halftime of the Blue Devil football team’s season opening football game.

HHS Clubs are Ready to Go

Huntington High School club advisors have been appointed by the Huntington School Board.

The faculty advisors include Suzette Biagi (A World of Difference, Grandfriends), Camille DeCanio (A World of Difference, Grandfriends), Edward Florea (The Dispatch), Michael Schwendemann (drama club), Deborah Beck (environmental club), Dianna Cazzalino (Et Cetera), Nicole Cooper (Gay/Straight Alliance), Robert Gilmor III (Habitat for Humanity, Natural Helpers), Jennifer Bendersky (Highsteppers director), Jessica Harris (Highsteppers assistant director), Linda Costello-Roth (Interact Club), Gina Colica (Key Club), Kelly Kaiser (Key Club), Amanda Scott (Mathletes 9), Keith Mattis (Mathletes 10-12), Sarah Buchalter (mock trial), Youlanda Carey (step team), Brian Reynolds (robotics), Omar Santiago (robotics), Lori Kenny (science research), Lauren Desiderio (social issues/National History Day), Glenn Deveau (stage crew), David Moriarty (student government), Danielle Raguzin (student government), Rosario Lorenzano (United Amigos), Elizabeth Casazza (yearbook) and Kristin Fortunato (yearbook).

Finley Club Advisors Named

The extracurricular activities program at J. Taylor Finley Middle School will include a variety of after school clubs.

Huntington School Board members appointed numerous teachers to serve as club faculty advisors and directors. Every student is invited to participate in the club program.

The group of advisors includes Dena Mortell (art club), Gina Trigian-Molvaut (drama club director), Susan Graber (show choir), Amy Hughes (Junior National Honor Society), Christopher Scarnato (jazz ensemble), Melanie DeMarco (Mathletes-7), Denise Grodzicki (Mathletes-8), Elizabeth Grobe (Math Counts), Denise Grodzicki (Math Counts), Jennifer DiMattei (newspaper club), Angela Whitfield (school store), Christopher Deveau (stage crew), Matthew Gelfer (stings ensemble and ukulele club), Keith Miller (student government), Dana Rubcewich (student government), Jarrad Richter (Yorker club) and Frank Battista (ukulele club and wind ensemble).

Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School Clubs

Huntington School Board members have approved a set of faculty advisors for the club program at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.

Emily Lohse (computer club), Lauren Caggiano (newspaper club), Janet Blitz (student government) and Patrice Monks (student government). Ms. Caggiano will also serve as a sixth grade Greenkill trip advisor.

Woodhull Intermediate School Club Advisors

The Woodhull Intermediate School club program is staffed after Huntington School Board members appointed various teachers to faculty advisor positions.

Todd Hiscox (art club), Vincenza Famiglietti-Caruso (newspaper club), Paula Gasparino (newspaper club), Scott Armyn (student government) and Jessica Risalvato (student government). Keith Meyers will serve as a sixth grade Greenkill trip advisor.

Trustees Accept Donations to District

Huntington School Board members accepted a pair of community donations at its public meeting this past Monday night in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium.

Celeste Morrissey donated a Hardman, Peck, & Co. upright piano to the Huntington UFSD Music Department. The piano is valued at about $2,000.

Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Black donated two pairs of Shure SRH4400 professional studio headphones to the district music department. The equipment is valued at approximately $200.00.

District Safety Team Appointed

In accordance with State Education Law and SED Commissioner’s regulations, Huntington School Board members have appointed members of the district’s safety team.

Superintendent James W. Polansky will serve as Huntington UFSD’s chief emergency officer and Assistant Superintendent Kathleen Acker will be the deputy chief emergency officer.

The team will also include Suffolk Police Officer Tom Arana-Wolfe, Huntington UFSD Lead Operations Manager George Austin, Trustee Christine Biernacki, Jefferson School Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide, Jefferson teacher Carol Coffey, PTA Council President Kristin Kanzer, Eastern Suffolk BOCES/district safety officer Allen Earle, Woodhull Intermediate School teacher Elizabeth Flanagan, high school security guard Michael Graziano, district human resources administrator Christopher Hender, Trustee Michelle Kustera and Flower Hill Primary School speech therapist Yafit Lucas.

The team also includes Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy, high school teacher Donna Nugent, J. Taylor Finley Middle School Assistant Principal Kenneth Parham, high school Assistant Principal Gamal Smith, District Director of Safety & Security Jarrett Stein, Finley teacher Angela Whitfield and high school dean of students Ronald Wilson.

The group will also include a respective representative from the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and the Huntington Manor Fire Department.

Flower Hill Primary School Principal Lucia Laguarda and Southdown Primary School Principal Scott Oshrin are alternates on the panel.
