Huntington High School’s junior-senior prom is shaping up to be great night. The Great Gatsby themed affair is set for Thursday, June 27 at Larkfield in East Northport. Tickets are on sale for $90 in Room 230 at the office of Paul Caleca, dean of students.
The evening will run from 6-10 p.m. There will be a DJ and dancing, fine foods and the crowning of the prom prince and princess and king and queen. A crowd of about 250 is expected.
The menu planned for the evening is sumptuous. Passed hors d’oeuvres will include coconut fried shrimp with pineapple diablo jam, sesame chicken lollipops served with peanut dipping sauce, miniature crab cakes with sauce remoulade, miniature Beef Wellington with horseradish sour cream, Spanikopita, homemade miniature franks in puff pastry served with spicy mustard, Szechuan style filet mignon skewers, seared filet mignon served with garlic crostini with a pesto sauce, miniature grilled cheese with tomato soup shooter served in a shot glass, barbeque short ribs served in an Asian spoon, lobster and avocado tartlette, shrimp cocktail presented in a tomato gazpacho shooter and sesame seared tuna served on a wonton chip with Wasabi sauce. There will also be platters of assorted fruits, chesses and vegetables.
The main course will begin with a Caesar salad and penne a la vodka and then prom-goers will have a choice of grilled shell steak, chicken Marsala, Asian salmon or stuffed acorn squash.
Dessert options will include three stations, including an ice cream sundae station, popcorn station and cotton candy station.
Larkfield underwent an $8 million renovation six years ago. The results are stunning. “Inspired by the Tuscan villas of Italy, the new Larkfield invites you and your guests to experience the romance and elegance of estate catering right here on Long Island,” states the facility’s website. “Old World style, demonstrated in timber and stone façades, soaring hearths, manicured gardens and interior balconies.”
This year’s prom is being organized by Huntington High School’s Class of 2020, which is led by juniors Christopher Mavrogian (president), Madelyn Reed (vice president), Paul Katigbak (treasurer), Madelyn Kye (recording secretary), Gabriel Medina-Jaudes (corresponding secretary), Ryan Knowles (historian) and administrative assistants Steli Viahas, Abigail Holmes, Julien Rentsch, Lucas Kelly and Natalie Ciccone. The class advisors are Kristen Fortunato and Paige Tyree Furman.
