Jenna Yabroudy is a naturally upbeat young woman. Nothing gets her down for very long. Even when she sustained a serious knee injury playing for the Blue Devil varsity soccer last fall, she quickly bounced back well before completing her long recovery. The Huntington High School senior is headed to Virginia Tech University, where she intends to study business and no one doubts she will find success there.
“Knowing I wanted to pursue a degree in business with a concentration in management and finance, I applied to various business programs all over the country,” Ms. Yabroudy said. “Virginia Tech has always been my top choice considering it has a very prestigious business program that will pave the way for many opportunities in the future. Even though it is a large school, Blacksburg, Virginia has a very small-town feel similar to Huntington. Everyone is incredibly friendly, which creates a very positive environment to develop both academically and as a person.”

The teenager considered the University of Oregon, Indiana University-Bloomington, Purdue University and the University of Colorado-Boulder prior to finalizing her plans to attend Virginia Tech.
“I’m incredibly excited to attend a large school that has so many different opportunities to get involved with the community,” Ms. Yabroudy said. “One event in particular is Relay For Life. I have been on the Relay planning committee at Huntington High School since freshman year and would love to help organize an even larger event. Also, since I’ve been playing soccer since third grade, I want to continue playing, possibly on a club team.”
The college application and selection process included an assessment of career interests and goals. It was time well spent as it helped Ms. Yabroudy put her plans for the future into sharper focus.
“Since Virginia Tech offers a wide range of classes pertaining to various aspects of business, as I continue my academic journey, I hope to find a field that I am passionate about,” Ms. Yabroudy said. “Knowing that things will most likely change, currently I am interested in management and finance, but to what degree I am still not sure.”
A dynamic young woman, Ms. Yabroudy was honored as a Distinguished Senior this spring. A member of the National Honor Society, she has regularly garnered a spot on the Huntington High School Honor Roll. She earned varsity athletic letters with the Blue Devil soccer, winter and spring track and field teams.
Ms. Yabroudy has participated in Huntington’s Interact Club and A World of Difference. She has been a member of the Young Leaders youth development organization and performed community service with the group.
The senior said the key to her success has been taking classes she enjoyed and working extremely hard in them. She has grown close to many members of the faculty.
“The most memorable aspect of Huntington has to be the relationships that I’ve developed with my teachers and fellow students,” Ms. Yabroudy said. “Being on soccer and track and field has taught me about teamwork and I will cherish those memories forever. Regardless of how far away I am for college or even after I graduate, Huntington will always be my home.”
