The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team will host Sachem East in the Suffolk Division I playoffs on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Blue Devil Stadium.
Huntington (10-6) is seeded No. 8 while Sachem East (7-8) comes into the game at the No. 9 seed. The winner will play at No. 1 Smithtown West (14-2) on Friday (May 17) at 4 p.m.
Huntington defeated Sachem East on April 11 in a regular season game, 13-12. Blue Devil senior Pat Durand had five goals and two assists that afternoon. Aedan McDonald made nine stops in goal.
Regular Season Culminates with Big Win
The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team closed the regular season with a record of 10-6 after easily besting host North Babylon, 16-3.
The Blue Devils led 5-1 after the first period and 10-3 at halftime. Huntington outscored the Bulldogs in the second half, 6-0.
Pat Durand led Huntington with three goals and four assists. Robbie Smith tallied three goals and two assists and Billy Burton and Ethan McGuinness both had two goals and an assist, respectively.
Huntington’s offense was on fire. Torin Bograd and Jon Koumas both notched a goal and two assists, respectively. Jordan McCoy had a goal and three assists. Liam Hassett, Jack Krisch and Johnny Tucker all scored in the game. Nick Mattio and Cole Pillion both picked up assists.
Huntington goalies Aedan McDonald (10 saves) and Alex Fascilla (11 saves) combined to stop 21 shots.
Blue Devil Girls’ Lax Scores 17 Goals
Abby Maichin scored three goals and added seven assists and Paige Lennon had three goals and an assist as the Huntington girls’ lacrosse team flew past host Copiague, 17-1.
Huntington galloped out to an 11-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Katie Browne and Marina Durand both scored twice in the game. Alyssa Sorensen had a goal and four assists. Maire Brown tallied a goal and two assists. Gretel Cassell, Julia Gorecki, Charlotte Maggio, Julia Steinberg and Holly Wright all scored goals. Marissa Stafford had an assist.
Sachem East Edges H-ton Girls’ Lax
The Huntington girls’ lacrosse team fell at Sachem East last Friday night in the final game of the regular season, 8-5.
The Blue Devils trailed at halftime, 5-2 and then went on to battle Sachem East to a 3-3 standoff in the second half.
Abby Maichin (46 goals; 24 assists) led Huntington with three goals. Jordan Forte (22g; 8a) had two goals and an assist. Alyssa Sorensen (6g; 22a) also assisted on a goal. Goalie Maya Santa-Maria (116 saves) made six saves.
Justin Italiano Delivers Clutch Hit
The Huntington baseball team came from behind to topple visiting Comsewogue, 3-2. Justin Italiano singled home what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Palmer O’Beirne came on in relief of starter Aidan Bender and hurled six fantastic innings, striking out 11 batters, surrendering two hits and walking just one.
Italiano collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Alex Bellissimo went 2-for-3. Jonah Anastos banged out a double.
Huntington fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but tied the game in the bottom of second. It stayed 2-2 until Italiano drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
