Mia Breitbarth has always been decisive and when it came time to making a decision on which college to attend she didn’t hesitate. The Huntington High School senior will be headed to Ohio State University next fall after a great run through the district.
The teenager considered Syracuse University, University of Maryland, College Park and Penn State University before deciding that Ohio State was a perfect fit for her personal and career interests.
Huntington senior Mia Breitbarth will be attending Ohio State University in the fall.
“I love sports and wanted a school that has an amazing football team,” Ms. Breitbarth said. “I am also planning on majoring in sports industry with a minor in business and Ohio State has a great program.”
A member of Huntington High School’s Honor Roll, Ms. Breitbarth has been active in the Blue Devil athletic program as well with after school clubs.
A visit to Ohio State’s Columbus campus clinched the deal. “I loved it,” Ms. Breitbarth said. “As soon as I got to the campus, I knew that it was somewhere I could see myself living for the next four years. OSU’s school spirit is something that’s unmatched so I loved seeing that walking around.”
The senior got her start in Huntington UFSD as a Washington Primary School kindergartener. She has always been a decisive person as well as someone who holds strong opinions and who isn’t afraid to share them or her feelings with others.
“Mrs. [Paige] Tyree-Furman has been my favorite teacher throughout high school by far,” Ms. Breitbarth said. “She’s taught me so much and is the reason I’m pursuing a career in business. The relationship I’ve formed with her over the years is something I’m really going to miss next year.”
“Mia is a force to be reckoned with,” Mrs. Tyree-Furman said. “She’s smart, mature, funny and dependable. I’ve had her in class since eighth grade and in every different setting she has always stood out as a leader. I’m really going to miss having her around, but I’m excited for her new start at Ohio State. They are so lucky to be getting her!”
Ms. Breitbarth is traveling to London in the summer with her family, “but I’m also going to try to spend as much time with my friends as I can before we all have to leave,” she said.
The teenager’s best friends include Brooke Goldsmith, Maire Brown, Danielle Lamarco and Madison Buchhotlz. It will be hard saying goodbye to each of them when it comes time to leave Huntington and head to college.
“I’m always going to remember the friendships that I’ve made and the relationships I’ve formed with some of my teachers,” Ms. Breitbarth said. “It’s going to be really hard without my friends next year.”
