Fresh off state relay titles and medals in the indoor national championships, the Huntington High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams are asking for community support at a fundraiser on Thursday, March 21 from 7-10 p.m. at Repeal XVIII on New Street in the village.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $50, which includes one free drink, unlimited appetizers and music. Repeal XVII is located at 30 New Street. Cash or checks payable to Huntington Track will be accepted.
Contact either Blue Devil boys’ head coach Ron Wilson (rwilson@hufsd.edu or 516-658-4870) or Huntington girls’ head coach Mark Jackson (mark.jackson@gmail.com or 631-384-1333) for more information.
If you can’t make the March 21 fundraiser, but would like to support the Blue Devils send a check payable to Huntington Track to: Ron Wilson at Huntington High School, 188 Oakwood Road, Huntington, NY 11743.
The boys’ and girls’ programs intend to use whatever proceeds are realized from the fundraiser to supplement district budget appropriations, Huntington Booster Club donations and other contributions to support training and competition expenses.
The Blue Devils are now on the national map. Huntington track and field athletes are being recruited by colleges across the country. Last spring, alums Infinite Tucker and Kyree Johnson both captured All-American honors at the NCAA Division I outdoor championships. The pair are stars at national power Texas A&M. This winter, alum Lawrence Leake won three gold medals at the Big East Championships for Georgetown University.
The two Huntington programs are seeking out competition against the best teams and athletes in the country, vying at invitational meets in multiple states. The funds generated at next week’s event will make more such trips possible.
