The Huntington High School Highsteppers competitive dance team will hold a fundraiser tonight (Monday, July 8) at Chipotle Mexican Grill at 435 Walt Whitman Road/Route 110 from 5-9 p.m. The Highsteppers will get 33 percent of the proceeds from patrons showing the event flyer or telling the cashier they’re supporting the cause.
The Highsteppers are coached by Jennifer Bendersky and Jessica Harris. The team’s 2019/20 captains are juniors Lainey Carney and Hallie Armengau and seniors Mia Redick and Isabella Thompson.
The squad also includes Jordan Rund, Livia D’Anna, Kate Sheran, Jordan Cook, Margo Nitekman, Brooke Evans, Grace Colavecchio, Victoria Befumo, Maria Sabatino, Sophia Thompson, Victoria Mangan, Jailyn Fuentes, Katelin Smith, Christina Drummings, Jillian LoTurco, Ella Naima, Alexa Rind and Keira Francis.
A flyer for the Monday night fundraiser at Chipotle is posted on the Huntington UFSD’s website at www.hufsd.edu and also on its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HuntingtonUFSD/. The flyer can be printed out or shown on a phone to the cashier.
“The purpose of the fundraiser is to help fund the girls’ trip to nationals in Florida next February,” Ms. Bendersky said.
The Highsteppers are the Huntington School District’s competitive dance team. In addition to performing at various athletic events, the group also competes in Long Island contests during the spring, including pom, dance and kickline categories. The competitive season culminates at the national championships.
The Highsteppers have a decades-long tradition at the high school. The 2019/20 squad is already training. The team will perform at the fall pep rally for students and staff and during halftime of next fall’s Homecoming Day football game.
