Free Softball Clinic at Huntington High School on Feb. 9

Huntington is holding a free softball clinic on Saturday, Feb. 9 for girls in grades 4-12.

January 31, 2019

The Huntington High School softball program is decades old, but it is still looking for new players to join the Blue Devil fold.

Huntington is sponsoring a free softball clinic on Saturday, February 9 from 12-2 p.m. for girls in grades 4-12. No pre-registration is required. Just come to the Huntington High School gym prepared to have fun.

Huntington High School coaches John Walsh and Jim Byrnes, Sr. are coordinating the free clinic on February 9. They will bring participants through some fun learning drills covering fielding, throwing, running the bases and hitting.

Huntington is looking to get more players involved in the program. The district fields teams on the middle school, junior varsity and varsity levels. But it also wants to get elementary school students interested in softball, too. Participants in the free clinic will be grouped appropriately based on age/grade and ability level.

For those in grades 7-12 who plan on playing on one of the teams this spring, the clinic will be an opportunity to start getting ready for the season. For those in grades 4-6, the session will offer a fun day to work with other girls who have a similar interest in softball. Not sure softball is your thing? The free clinic is a great opportunity to help determine if you like the sport.

If you have a glove, bring it along with a pair of sneakers. If you don’t happen to have a glove, that’s no reason not to come. The coaches will set you up with what you need to participate and have an enjoyable afternoon.

Blue Devil softball players come in all shapes and sizes. Everyone is welcome to join the fun. Participants can test their skills at various positions to see which one they like the best.

Those who need more information can contact Coach Walsh at jwalsh@hufsd.edu. Remember: No advance registration is needed. Just come to the high school gym on February 9 at 12 noon and be ready to have a blast.
