Baylie Larsen is a skilled gymnast who is using her competitive nature and willingness to sacrifice and work hard to compile an enviable record as a Huntington High School junior.
A Level 9 gymnast, Ms. Larsen has been training and competing for many years. She spends countless hours in the gym each week and has developed nerves of steel, which enable her to perform at a high level at meets and championships.

A wonderful student academically, Ms. Larsen has been inducted into Huntington High School’s National Honor Society chapter as well as the Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, English Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
Ms. Larsen is an active and contributing member of Huntington’s Key Club. She is well-liked by her classmates and teachers and is thriving at the high school in every possible way.
“Most of my closest friends are from gymnastics, but my two closest friends at school are Molly Kessler and Jean Marie Maleszewski,” Ms. Larsen said.
The junior’s academic schedule includes classes in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, AP Biology, AP US History, Spanish 4 Honors, Pre-Calculus BC, Fashion III, Psychology and Project Adventure.
Ms. Larsen’s favorite teachers have been Kim Valerio, Patricia Avelli, Joann Ferazi, Deborah Beck and Joseph Cohen.
“Baylie Larsen is one of my Fashion III students,” art teacher Kim Valerio said. “She is very talented and creative in fashion. She is quiet and hardworking and a pleasure to have as a student. She hopes to be my fashion intern next year. I also taught Baylie at J. Taylor Finley Middle School when she was in my seventh grade art class there.”
Among the colleges that Ms. Larsen is currently interested in are Sacred Heart, Cornell, Quinnipiac and Boston College, but she admits that “I’m still looking.”
The teenager intends to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Considering her strong interest in science and her exceptional academic record, she appears well-suited for the college course demands that accompany such a major.
Ms. Larsen managed to squeeze in some traveling. “I went to Paris and Germany over the summer for my sixteenth birthday and for gymnastics, I’ve been to Vegas and Florida and I’m going to San Diego,” she said.
One of the top students in Huntington’s Class of 2020, Ms. Larsen is excelling across the board. “The classes have been challenging and I feel that they are helping prepare me for college,” she said. “I enjoy helping others and I feel that I have found my place in Key Club and the honor societies.”
