The Huntington varsity girls’ basketball team won its second straight league game and evened its overall record to 6-6 with a 38-28 victory on Monday night at Comsewogue.
Huntington led 9-8 after the first quarter and 16-12 at halftime. The Blue Devils went on to outscore the Warriors in the second half, 22-16.
Emily Plachta led Huntington with 13 points and seven rebounds. Abby Maichin had 10 points and Christie Baade added nine points and eight rebounds. Charlotte Maggio, Junie Nosile and Paige Lennon had two points each. Plachta and Maichin both connected on shots from behind the three-point arc.
Huntington’s points came almost exclusively from the field. Only Maichin and Baade scored from the free throw line, with each sinking one shot.
Blue Devil Matmen McDonald and Smith Win Titles . . .
Huntington wrestlers Aedan McDonald and Tazadon Smith captured weight class championships at the Kohl Invitational at Suffern High School last Saturday. The Blue Devils finished fourth in the teams standings in a field of eight squads.
McDonald pinned Mineola’s Ezequiel Claros in 3:35 in the 132 lb. finals. Smith decision Sayville’s Nick DeStefano in the 220 lb. finals, 9-7.
Huntington’s Joe Petrone placed second at 99 lbs. falling in the finals to Sayville’s Mack Murtha, 10-3. Blue Devil star Robbie Smith was nipped in the finals at 170 lbs. by East Ramapo’s Jonathan Lafortune, 7-6.

Chad Rowe Enjoys Career Night . . .
Chad Rowe had a career high 20 points, but the Huntington varsity boys’ basketball team fell to visiting Comsewogue, 63-56.
Huntington trailed by double digits early before rallying to take an 18-16 lead by the end of the first period. But the Blue Devils couldn’t hold onto their advantage and played catch-up the rest of the way.
Huntington trailed at halftime, 37-30 and was down 52-39 after three quarters. The Blue Devils went on a 17-11 fourth quarter run, but it wasn’t enough.
Max Rentch scored 10 points for Huntington. John Paci had seven points and Jonah Anastos, Lex Colato and Dan Danziger all had five points each. Matt Girimonti added four points.
Rowe connected for three 3-pointers. Rentsch had two baskets from three-point range and Paci also connected from beyond the arc.
Blue Devils Resume Winning Ways . . .
Freshman Emily Plachta turned in an inspired performance scoring 14 points to lead the Huntington varsity girls’ basketball team to a much needed victory over league foe Centereach last Friday night in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium, 43-33.
The Blue Devils led 9-3 after the first eight minutes and 18-6 at halftime. Centereach went on to outscore Huntington in the second half, 27-25, but couldn’t recover from its double digit deficit.
Freshman Junie Nosile had the best game of her Blue Devil career with 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Paige Lennon had seven points and Christie Baade added six points and eight rebounds.
Katie Browne, Makaylah Frazier and Alyssa Sorensen all had two points. Sorensen came off the bench in the fourth quarter and contributed several big plays, including a handful of assists and a timely basket.
Chris Weber Wins Three Events in the Pool . . .
Huntington’s boy’s swimmers remained undefeated, toppling Smithtown in a close meet, 92-84. The Blue Devils are now 6-0.
Like a majority of Section XI boys’ teams, Huntington has elected to combine with Harborfields in the sport of swimming and diving.
Huntington’s Nate Gamboa and Chris Weber swam on the winning 200 yard medley relay team. Weber also captured the 200 yard individual medley and the 500 yard freestyle.
The team is coached by Blue Devil veteran Meg McConnell.
Freshman Max Rentsch Scores 31 Points . . .
Huntington freshman Max Rentsch scored a career high 31 points, but the Blue Devil varsity boys’ basketball couldn’t hold onto a seven point halftime lead and went on to fall at Centereach, 70-65 last Friday night.
Huntington went ahead 15-13 after the first quarter and led 37-30 at halftime. Centereach came roaring back with a 24-15 third quarter run. The Cougars outscored the Blue Devils in the final frame, 16-13 to seal the win.
Huntington’s Lex Colato and Chad Rowe both had 11 points. Dan Danziger scored nine points. John Paci and Omari Stephen had one point each.
Rentsch had five 3-point baskets and Danziger and Rowe had two each.
H-ton Baseball Sets Goals . . .
No Huntington High School baseball team has reached post-season play since 2005 when the Blue Devils advanced to the semi-finals of the Class A tournament before falling to Kings Park.
Huntington head coach Billy Harris is hoping to end that drought this spring. He’d also love to break an even longer streak. The Blue Devils haven’t won a baseball league championship since 1965.
