A fundraiser to benefit Huntington's lacrosse programs is set for March 9

A fundraiser to benefit the Huntington High School boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs will be held on Sunday, March 9 from 3-6 p.m. at Brews Brothers Grille at 69 Wall Street in Huntington village.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $50 for adults and $15 for kids. Unlimited refreshments and appetizers will be available. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to benefit this year’s high school boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs.

All parents, alumni and friends of the programs are invited to attend.

Blue Devil boys’ head coach Julian Watts and assistant coaches Patrick Reilly and Andrew Guitierez along with other members of the Huntington boys’ lacrosse staff will be on hand to meet and greet.

This year’s boys’ program JV staff includes Anthony Troffa and Timothy Witt. The two teams at J. Taylor Finley Middle School will be coaches by Travis Smith, Anthony Annunziata, Matthew Bilello and Jonathan Kowalchuk.

The girls’ staff includes varsity head coach Beth Vogelsang, varsity assistant coaches Vincent Tanazzo and Carli Clementi and JV coaches Shea Scully and Chiara Maimone. The Finley girls’ team will be coached by Linda Costello-Roth and Ysrael Gonzalez.

Practice officially begins on Monday, March 4. Both Huntington varsity lax teams are expected to feature an aggressive style of play. Many players have been engaged in winter workouts.

The Huntington boys’ varsity is gearing up for what it hopes will be a great season. The team’s returning veterans include Sebastian Abreu, Billy Burton, Henry Cartwright, JT Duffy, Patrick Durand, Liam Hassett, Jon Koumas, Jack Langton, Luke Luckow, Anthony Martin, Nick Mattio, Jordan McCoy, Aedan McDonald, Trevan Meagher, Cornelius O’Rourke, Cole Pillion, Jackson Pitti, Steven Reyes, Steven Scafordi and Johnny Tucker.

Huntington’s 2019 varsity schedule includes non-league games against Half Hollow Hills West and Cold Spring Harbor and league contests against Longwood, Smithtown West, Middle Country, Ward Melville, Brentwood, Copiague, Riverhead, Sachem East, Sachem North, Lindenhurst, Commack, Southampton/East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson/Ross, Northport and North Babylon.

The Blue Devil girls’ varsity team has high expectations for success. Huntington’s returning players include Megan Agrillo, Alexa Amorison, Lena Annunziata, Katie Browne, Maire Brown, Gretel Cassell, Jordan Forte, Caroline Hartough, Paige Lennon, Abby Maichin, Maya Santa-Maria, Charlotte Maggio, Alyssa Sorensen, Marissa Stafford, Julia Steinberg and Holly Wright. Many players from last year’s exceptional JV team are also expected to join the varsity this spring.

The Huntington girls’ varsity team’s schedule includes scrimmages against Harborfields, Rocky Point and Massapequa; non-league games against Cold Spring Harbor and Farmingdale and league contests against Smithtown West, Riverhead, Sachem North, Northport, Half Hollow Hills, Walt Whitman, Longwood, Smithtown East, William Floyd, Brentwood, Middle Country, North Babylon, Copiague and Sachem East.

Those who have unneeded lacrosse equipment at home are encouraged to bring it to the fundraiser and donate the items to the Devil’s Den, which helps outfit needy Huntington athletes.
