The Huntington boys’ basketball team honored its seniors during a ceremony at midcourt prior to Tuesday night’s home game in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
Jonah Anastos, Ian Ardell, Jake Costabile and John Paul Paci were introduced to the largest home crowd of the season. Each of the players presented a small bouquet of flowers to their respective mother, who joined the group on the court.
The seniors posed for a variety of photos, assembled together with the parents, with each other and with their respective mom. The athletic department unveiled a new Blue Devil backdrop that was used for some of the photos.
As the seniors were introduced their underclassmen teammates stood nearby and applauded. Head coach Brian Carey, assistant coach Kevin Thorbourne and volunteer consultants John Romano and W. Gerard Asher were also courtside for the ceremony.
Huntington fell to league foe Centereach in the game that followed, 53-41. The Blue Devils led at halftime, 15-14, but the Cougars went on a 39-26 second half run to put lock-up the victory.
Huntington junior Dan Danziger led both teams with 19 points. Junior Lex Colato had seven points. Anastos and sophomore Chad Rowe had five points. Freshman Max Rentsch scored three points and junior Omari Stephen added two points from the free throw line.
Danziger nailed four three-point baskets in the game. Anastos, Colato, Rentsch and Rowe also all connected from beyond the arc.
Huntington puts a wrap on the season with a Thursday (February 7) night league game at Comsewogue. Tipoff is 5:45 p.m.
