Madison Lange is a mover and a shaker. The teenager is an energetic, determined and fun-loving junior. She has an admirable set of goals and the work ethic to accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
Ms. Lange moved to Huntington as a second grader from Mount Sinai. Since then she has seamlessly blended into every school she has attended and captured the affection of all of her classmates.

Since that first day as a second grader at Southdown Primary School, Ms. Lange has brightened up her classroom and been a teacher’s dream. Her sister, Sophie is a seventh grader at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and her brother, Matthew is a high school freshman.
Ms. Lange’s academic schedule includes classes in Advanced Placement Seminar, Honors French, Honors Chemistry, Algebra/Trig, United States History, Virtual Enterprise and Chamber Choir.
The teenager’s closest friends include Isabella Neira, Sadie Walters, Bianca Lella, Moira Contino, Shyann Maragh and Megan Agrillo
The junior’s favorite teachers have been Paige Tyree Furman, Thomas Tantillo, Deidre Mayer and Fred Bisogno.
Ms. Lange volunteers at Huntington Hospital and also at the Huntington YMCA where she helps out in a classroom with four year olds. She has even worked as a camp counselor at the Bay Club.
The teenager is among the first group of students to take the high school’s new Virtual Enterprise business course and she is very involved in Poppy, the company created by her VE class.
Ms. Lange joined Huntington’s chamber choir this year and she is also a member of the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter. She helps Assistant Principal Gamal Smith with the peer mediation group.
A member of Huntington High School’s Relay For Life planning committee, Ms. Lange has been a team captain for two years. She lives life to the fullest, preferring to stay very active to wasting time. That doesn’t mean to suggest she dislikes having fun. She certainly enjoys getting together with her friends and she has plenty of them.
“I am thinking about a career in business preferably in human resources or marketing,” Ms. Lange said. “I have been thinking about applying to Binghamton or University of Rhode Island or Sacred Heart, but I’m keeping my options open. There are many schools that I’m interested in. One of those colleges is the University of Virginia and it’s highly regarded Darden School of Business, which offers a coveted MBA.
The Huntington teenager enjoys traveling and she has done a good amount of it internationally, always learning something new along the way.
“I'm Dutch, so I recently went to Europe where I visited Amsterdam, France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland,” Ms. Lange said. “I have also been to Stratton in Vermont for skiing and we also just came back from Pennsylvania where we went skiing as well. We have a house in Cape Cod for the summertime so we go up there a lot.”
As she sails through her junior year, Ms. Lange took an opportunity to reflect on her experiences. She is making good use of each day and the variety of activities that she engages in have helped clarify her long-term interests.
“I feel as though Huntington has taught me so much as a whole,” Ms. Lange said. “It gives me a sense of home because we have people such as Mr. [Robert] Gilmor and Dr. [Nancy] DeVito to help us when we need to talk. There are also such great opportunities such as the multiple business and art classes that most schools don’t offer. Huntington has taught me to be a better person and is preparing me so much for the future. Everyone around me has influenced me and impacted my life in ways they don’t know. Mr. [Gamal] Smith has always been by my side and has kept pushing me to do better and has helped me succeed. Overall, my experience at Huntington High School has been incredible and I can’t wait for my senior year.”
Ms. Lange is exceedingly well liked by the high school’s faculty. “I first met Madison as a student in my Global 9 class two years ago,” Mr. Bisogno said. “She is an incredibly kind person who is always the first to participate in class discussions. Madison is rarely satisfied with a basic answer. She will hang around after class and look to continue conversations about the daily lesson. She is an absolute pleasure to teach and I’m glad that I had another opportunity to teach her in US History this year.”
It’s fair to say that Ms. Lange has left a favorable impression with everyone she has come across at Huntington High School.
“Madison is top notch,” Ms. Furman said. “I’ve had her in previous classes, but this year she has really stood out in the Virtual Enterprise course. She goes above and beyond and is taking our firm to a whole other level. She is diligent and persistent and a dream employee. She’s currently planning a big networking night for our company and I can’t wait to see what she does with it.”
As she goes about her daily routine, Ms. Lange is leaving an indelible mark at the high school.
