Huntington High School’s student musicians are headed for a sensational year of personal growth and exceptional individual and group performances. Inside the building’s walls are some of the most remarkable young talents on Long Island, if not the state.

Huntington’s music program is steeped in tradition. It started to take shape in the 1920s and came into much clearer focus in the 1930s, when the Blue Devil band was created by James Cloyd Doty. The 1950s and 1960s saw explosive growth in the program, which steadily gained a nationwide reputation for its comprehensive nature and spectacular musicians and vocalists. A chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society was added in the 1990s.

The current year’s student leadership for the high school’s music groups includes:

Tri-M Music Honor Society: Isabella Cahill (president), Julien Rentsch (vice president), Jenny Low (treasurer), Abby Semelsberger (secretary) and Mia Nitekman (historian).

Blue Devil Marching Band: Katie Riley, Mathew Hearl and Jennifer Low are the drum majors. James Obermaier is the field major.

Huntington High School Orchestra: Annabella Matheus (president), Nina Danseglio (treasurer), Keenan Lyons (secretary), Arielle Harvey (historian), Foster Sullivan (librarian) and Valerie Rogel (string orchestra representative).
