Registration for the fall driver education program at Huntington High School will be held on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Registration materials can be reviewed and download on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu.
Registration for juniors and seniors will be held on Wednesday, September 5 between 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in room 122. (Seniors will register first.)
Registration for all other students (sophomores will register first and then non-residents) will be held on Thursday, September 6, also between 2:30-3:30 p.m. in room 122.
Participation in the program is limited to those who have reached the age of 16 by September 1 and who hold a valid learner’s permit. The 70 openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The course will run from September 17 through December 21. Lecture classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students must attend both days. Road classes will be held Monday through Saturday. Students must attend one road class per week. The specific hours each day will depend upon an individual’s schedule. Schedules will be assigned on a first come, first served basis on the day of registration.
Since there are numerous school holidays during the fall semester, those participating in the fall driver education program are asked to review the course calendar issued at registration for specific lecture and road class dates.
Students may only miss a total of three classes in the program, but all missed classes must immediately be made up. Make-ups of more than one road class may result in an additional fee. Once a fourth class is missed, the student will be dropped from the program and will not be eligible for a “Blue Card” (MV-285). No classes can be made-up once a new semester has begun. (Lost MV-285 “Blue Cards” can be replaced for a fee of $25.)
The registration fee for the course is $500 for residents and $525 for non-residents. For more information call the high school at 631-673-2018.
