Henry Cartwright lives a disciplined life. He works hard, trains and studies even harder and he loves his country. The Huntington High School senior is hoping to gain a Congressional appointment and be approved for admission to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.
Mr. Cartwright’s sister, Nina has been at the Naval Academy for several years so he knows how challenging life as a midshipman can be and he understands the demands that come with life on the storied campus in Maryland.

An alumnus of Washington Primary School, Mr. Cartwright has always displayed a level of determination that few can match. Whether its classes, clubs or sports, Mr. Cartwright knows only one speed; full.
The senior’s current academic schedule includes Advanced Placement Physics, AP Micro/Macro Economics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Calculus AB, Science Research and Spanish.
Mr. Cartwright’s favorite teacher is science department faculty member Lori Kenny “because she has helped and supported me since I was a freshman and her room is always open,” he said. “She’s consistently positive and willing to help and solve any problem that arises. Lots of people like her. She is an excellent teacher to have entering the high school as she will help you with any problem.”
The teenager enjoys the study of science and every other academic discipline, too. “I wrote a grant to repair the high school greenhouse and will be renovating it throughout this year,” he said. Mr. Cartwright is treasurer of the GO school-wide student government. He’s also a three-sport athlete, starring on the Blue Devil football, swimming and lacrosse teams.
“Henry is an outgoing, driven individual who is dedicated to carrying out goals he sets for himself,” Mrs. Kenny said. “He loves becoming involved with mentoring and helping his peers and developing a better community for the high school.”
Mr. Cartwright’s closest friends include Jack Stewart, John Paul Paci, Max Gordon and Thomas Peer. His classmates appreciate his intellect, work ethic and sense of humor. His teammates admire his aggressive and downright dogged style of play.
The articulate teenager travels to Great Britain annually to visit his aunts, uncles and grandparents. He traveled through Eastern Europe last spring on a private trip with many of his friends and classmates.
Mr. Cartwright has thoroughly enjoyed his experience at Huntington High School. “It’s been an excellent time where I’ve met lifelong friends and had the opportunity to be taught by excellent teachers and coaches,” he said. “I’m happy to have taken advantage of all the clubs and activities that the high school offers.”
