Max Gordon is one of the top students in Huntington High School’s Class of 2019. He’s earned exceptional grades and he’s eyeing many fine colleges. Asked to choose a favorite teacher, the teenager didn’t hesitate: business department faculty member Suzi Biagi.

“Mrs. Biagi has helped me grow as a student and as a person, whether we are talking about business or just talking about life,” Mr. Gordon said. “She’s always been there.”

Mr. Gordon’s academic schedule includes Advanced Placement Statistics, AP Environmental Science, AP Research, AP Macro/Microeconomics and Latin V. He’s co-President of Natural Helpers, recording secretary of Latin Honor Society and an avid member of the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.

“I have taken a majority of the business classes offered at the high school, including Personal Law I and II and Accounting I and II,” Mr. Gordon said.

The senior is looking at Tulane University, Syracuse University and the University of Maryland for the next step in his education. He’s interested in marketing and advertising.

Mr. Gordon cites Mrs. Biagi’s “persistence and determination” as two of the qualities that make her a fine teacher. “She is up early every morning and in school doing work by 6:30 a.m.” he said. “She hasn’t let anything get in the way of her job. She’s a remarkable person and role model.”

A member of Huntington High School’s Class of 1977, Mrs. Biagi studied at New York Institute of Technology where she obtained undergraduate degrees in business management and business education, K-12 and a master’s degree in instructional technology, K-12. She earned her state certification in English as a second language at Adelphi University.

An emergency medical technician and crew leader with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad since 2008, Mrs. Biagi is a Suffolk County Family Court special advocate volunteer. She is a faculty advisor for Huntington High School’s GrandFriends club, the A World of Difference club and the mock trial team. She has also served as a freshman transitional coach.

The longtime faculty member is just as impressed with Mr. Gordon as he is with her. “Max is a smart, sensitive young man who is determined to get it all done,” Mrs. Biagi said. “

A member of the Blue Devil varsity boys’ tennis team, Mr. Gordon came to Huntington as a first grader. He’s been an essential member of the school community ever since.

The teenager said he’s had a wonderful experience in the district. “I think between the students and faculty they have made my years here amazing and unforgettable,” Mr. Gordon said.
