Huntington High School students will find an awful lot to interest them during College Application Week, which will run throughout next week from October 22-26. Guidance department officials feel the fourth year of the initiative will provide valuable information that those on every grade level can carefully consider and evaluate and ultimately put to good use.

“College Application Week is a national initiative to ensure that every graduating high school senior has the opportunity to successfully apply to at least one post-secondary educational institution,” said Kitty R. Klein, district director of guidance and testing.

Ms. Klein and her team of school counselors have designed a schedule of worthwhile activities to assist Huntington students as they make their way through the college application process.

The week’s lineup schedule features:

Monday, October 22: LIU Post will meet with students on every grade level in Room 140 and discuss the college search and application process.

Tuesday, October 23: Huntington High School’s annual mini-college fair will be held in the large cafeteria for juniors and seniors. More than 50 colleges have confirmed their attendance.

Wednesday, October 24: Suffolk Community College will meet with seniors in Room 140 and hold an on-site application review.

Thursday, October 25: St. Joseph’s College will with students on every grade level in Room 140 and discuss the college search and application process.

Friday, October 26: Nassau Community College will meet with seniors in Room 140 and hold an on-site application review.

Counselors will be escorting English as a new language students to the college diversity summit at Farmingdale State College on Friday, October 26.

School counselors will staff the computer labs during lunch periods throughout the week to assist students in registering for the SATs, ACTs, submitting college applications and creating FAFSA accounts.

“We will have prizes for all students who participate in the week including college sweatshirts, t-shirts, mugs and backpacks,” Ms. Klein said.

Students need to register with their school counselor in advance to participate in one or more of the sessions. Contact Ms. Klein at kklein@hufsd.edu for more information.
