Since it first opened in September 1954 in one of the most beautiful areas of Long Island, Flower Hill School students have taken a backseat to no one.
There are more than 300 youngsters spread across grades K-3 studying in Flower Hill’s classroom this year. They are just as energetic, articulate and intelligent as their predecessors over the past 64 years.
Flower Hill Principal Lucia Laguarda recently announced the recipients of the school’s Star Student Awards for September. The award winners are an outstanding group of boys and girls.
The honorees include:
Kindergarten: Hannah Maldonado Maldonado, Santiago Miranda Gomez, Edgar Lopez
First grade: Amari Brewer, Addison Ashby, Dean Michaelian, Gretchen Schmid, Radhames Perez Vargas
Second grade: Lauren Reed, Andrea Rivera Rivera,Mirabelle Hollweg, Cassidy Goldman, Harper Cohn
Third grade: Sean White, Sophia Curley, Juliet Johnson, Jean Carlos Murillo Marroquin, George Reyes, Asani Ingram
Flower Hill boasts students that excel in every academic discipline along with the arts and athletics, too. Students know they have it made in the building and they excitedly pass through the doors each morning for another day.
The Star Student Award is big around Flower Hill and every youngster is happy to receive it. Typically one student from each classroom is chosen monthly. Their name rings out over the public address system and they march down to the main office with an especially vigorous spring in their step.
“Flower Hill School continues to be a wonderful place for the young people of the Huntington community,” Ms. Laguarda said. “Our students love school and we love working with them.”
Once all the Stars of the Month had been introduced and given a certificate, the group assembled with Ms. Laguarda for a commemorative photo.
