Four Blue Devil girls’ tennis players garnered All-League honors to cap off a solid season by the Huntington High School varsity team.
Seniors Christie Baade, Mia Breitbarth, Maire Brown and Cameron Fehrs all captured post-season recognition. Senior Emma Grassi was Huntington’s county Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Blue Devil girls' tennis coach Jamie Fishlow.
Coached by Jamie Fishlow, the squad competed in rugged Suffolk League I. The Blue Devils compiled a 3-7 league mark and went 6-9 overall. Huntington finished fourth in the league standings and qualified for the county tournament.
“We reached the playoffs in a tough league,” said Fishlow when asked what the team’s best accomplishment this fall. “We defeated a higher seeded team (East Islip) in the first round of the playoffs.”
Freshman Tallulah Pitti and sophomore Isyss Jones also shined in singles play. “They both made good progress as the season went on,” Fishlow said. “They gained knowledge on how to play big points.”
The roster also included Ashlyn Case, Lexi Helburn, Meagan-Elise Malone, Caitlyn Palermo, Lily O’Heir and Nina Drakulich.
“This year, the team came together and showed improvement as the season progressed,” Fishlow said. “Despite some tough losses, they showed resiliency and won matches they needed to win.”
Pitti, O’Heir, Drakulich, Jones and Helburn will all be returning next fall to the varsity team and are expected to lead the Blue Devils to new heights.
