Lauren White has been involved in the very heart and soul of Huntington High School, tackling the most challenging courses, participating in the sports and club programs and developing relationships with teachers and classmates that have helped her grow in every way possible. Soon it will be time for the teenager to begin a new chapter in her life at the University at Buffalo.

Ms. White considered SUNY Geneseo, Towson University, University of Rhode Island and University of South Carolina before deciding Buffalo was the best place to continue her education.

“From the minute I walked onto campus I instantly fell in love with the environment,” Ms. White said. “Buffalo has brilliant natural science and engineering programs that offer many great opportunities in the field.”

The teenager is planning on majoring in biological sciences or biomedical engineering while minoring in communications.

“I have known Lauren for about three years and I’m so lucky to have her as one of my best friends,” senior Francine Nastasi said. “Lauren was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Huntington and I instantly knew this would be a friendship that would last forever. She is the friendliest and kindest person I know! She always knows how to make someone smile and brighten their day. She is such a hard worker and never gives up no matter what. I am so proud of everything she has accomplished in high school and I am excited to see what her future will hold. She is going to do amazing things at the University at Buffalo.”

Ms. White’s senior year academic schedule includes classes in Advanced Placement Italian, AP Government and Politics, AP Statistics, AP Research, Forensics and Chamber Choir.

At one time or another during high school, Ms. White has participated in lacrosse, tennis and crew. She’s the recording secretary of the student government and the yearbook club and was historian of the environmental club last year.

“Throughout my time spend in the student government, I was involved in events like float night, prom, Stuff the Bus and homecoming,” Ms. White said. “Planning these events and helping others, all while being able to work together with my friends, was great.”

A longtime member of Huntington High School’s robotics team, Ms. White is also a member of the Relay For Life’s planning committee and well as the Key Club

Some of the senior’s favorite teachers have been Silvia Gilbert (Italian), David Moriarty (pre-calculus), Steven Kroll (AP Research) and Kenneth Donovan (AP US History and AP Government and Politics).

“One of the highlights of my time at Huntington High School has been robotics,” Ms. White said. “I’ve been on the robotics team since tenth grade. Throughout my time in robotics I was able to expand my knowledge of marketing and promotions, as well as in the engineering field. I was able to attend the world championships with the team three times to St. Louis and Detroit.”

The recording secretary of the Italian Honor Society, Ms. White has also been inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the English and Social Studies Honor Societies.

“My overall experience at Huntington High School has been incredible,” Ms. White said. “The school has so many things to offer from clubs to classes. I will never forget the memories and lasting friendships I made here. The support and motivation from my teachers, friends and family guided me through many challenges and I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
