When the Town of Huntington and the Cinema Arts Centre began planning a Women’s History Month celebration, officials reached out to Huntington High School and asked for an exhibit of artwork that could enhance the observance held at the theatre complex.
An intergenerational art exhibit was arranged along with a showing of the movie, Bombshell: The Heddy Lamarr Story. Considered the “world’s most beautiful woman,” it has been claimed that the movie star was the “secret inventor of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, but her beauty stood in the way of her being given the credit she deserved,” according to a promotional review of the film.
“The exhibit was explained to us as ‘art of women, by women, for women,’” said Pam Piffard, a veteran Huntington High School art/photography teacher. She spoke with some of her department colleagues and soon an exceptional collection of photographs, drawings, paintings and graphic art pieces had been gathered together and submitted.
“I chose to participate because I believe art is one of the most powerful ways to represent beauty,” Huntington senior Julia Rogan said. “This exhibit in particular meant a lot to me because it was a celebration of influential female artists. I feel honored to have my work displayed alongside so many other talented women.”

“I was happy to get the call to participate in this exhibit,” Mrs. Piffard said. “We are always looking for opportunities to showcase student work. Many of the students made it out to the show and enjoyed the movie as well.”
The students themselves took delight in participating in the event. “I was honored to have my work presented at the exhibit,” sophomore Maddie Reed said. “It was amazing to see all the talented female artists and their pieces being showcased.”
