The Blue Devil football program will hold its annual awards dinner on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in the Huntington High School cafeteria.
A long list of awards will be presented to players, including the top gridiron performers on the junior varsity and middle school levels. A crowd of more than 150 players and parents is expected to attend.
Parents are catering the affair. The planning committee is headed by Julie LaBella. A highlight film of the varsity season created by Huntington Camera Club President Darin Reed will be shown during the dinner.
Blue Devil Girls’ Lax Captains
The Huntington varsity girls’ lacrosse team will be led by six captains this spring. Amber Stieve, Emma Greenhill, Isabella Piccola, Sarah Agrillo, Catie Ricciardelli and Isabella Annunziata have all been named captains.
The Blue Devils are coached by Kim Gilroy, Linda Costello-Roth and Beth Vogelsang. The JV squad is coached by Vincent Tannazzo and Shea Scully.
Finley Girls’ Volleyball Captures Section XI Award
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ volleyball team has claimed a Section XI Sportsmanship Award during the winter season.
Coaches rate opposing teams following each contest. The ratings are tabulated by Section XI, which announces the winner of the organization’s Sportsmanship Award in each sport for every league.
Coached by Carrie Postel, the 23-player squad was captained by Sophia Toscano, Adrianna LoScalzo and Kianna Criscuolo.
The Finley squad also included seventh graders Laurel Bonn, Ava Brandine, Megan Donaghy, Gianna Forte, Lauren Gennarelli, Tessie Maerz, Neha Rathore, Asyria Rios and Hailey Smith and eighth graders Analisse Batista, Caroline Gorecki, Madelyn Bavaro, Cassidy Casabona, Sofia Marchetta, Mackenzie McManus, Caroline O’Rourke, Francesca Stamatatos, April Swanson, Kristen Toomey and Eliza Walther.
Blue Devil Wrestlers Get Awards
Huntington wrestling team members recently celebrated the season with desserts and light refreshments at the program’s annual awards night.
Aedan McDonald captured the Blue Devils’ Most Outstanding Wrestler Award while Joe Petrone, Billy Burton, Aidan McCooey and Tazadon Smith were all named Most Improved.
Robert Smith earned the Hardest Worker Award. Aidan McCooey garnered the Wrestler with the Highest GPA Award. Ethan Franciscovich was named the Most Improved Junior Varsity Wrestler.
Numerous awards were also presented to wrestlers who were tops in various statistical categories. Recipients included Joe Petrone (Most Falls and Most Team Points), Charlie O’Rourke (Most Near Falls), Billy Burton (Most Technical Falls), Jaiden Erickson (Most Reversals) and Aedan McDonald (Most Takedowns and Most Escapes).
Head coach Louis R. Giani, Kieran Mock, Omar Santiago and David Bergmann also presented team members with varsity and JV letters.
The party was held in the high school cafeteria. Many parents attended the affair and joined in the fun. Desserts included a large cake from famed Copenhagen Bakery in Northport, four pounds of cookies and several trays of delectable items brought by parents. Coffee and flavored water was also available to the crowd.
Huntington Baseball Wins Scrimmage
The Huntington varsity baseball team topped host Harborfields in a scrimmage on Monday afternoon, 4-2.
Luke Eidle started for the Blue Devils and went two innings, holding the Tornadoes hitless while striking out five and walking one.
Jonah Anastos, Chris Segreti, Jason Mora, Justin Italiano, Jon Magerle and Eidle all belted out base hits for Huntington. Italiano collected a pair of runs batted in. Anastos also had an RBI. Eidle scored twice and Mora and Aidan Bender also crossed the plate.
The scrimmage was scoreless through four innings. Huntington took the lead in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. The Blue Devils took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning when they pushed two more runs across the plate. Harborfields attempted to rally, but could only pull to within 4-2.
Bender and Elian Pimentel both hurled two innings and were effective. Kyle Colleluori threw the final frame.
The Blue Devils are coached by Billy Harris and James Priest.
